'Inferno Pool' And 'Rainbow Islands' This Week's XBLA Titles

by Rainier on Oct. 26, 2009 @ 1:12 p.m. PDT

This isn’t Pool as you know it; this is multiplayer mayhem for 1-4 players simultaneously fighting for victory. Alliances will be formed, friends will be betrayed, and the battle isn’t over until the stat screen appears. Rainbow Islands endeared itself to an entire generation of gamers in the late 1980s with its playful mix of intense platforming challenges, a delightfully cute visual style and, of course, a heavy emphasis on rainbow-firing action.

Inferno Pool

"Inferno Pool" is a revolutionary new arcade Pool/Billiards game where 1-4 local or online players battle to clear their tables while firing potted balls at opponents. Players can stockpile balls for a later onslaught, nominate their victims, and unleash devastating ball streaks and outrageous skill shots to trigger the punishing Inferno Mode. Alliances will be formed, friends will be betrayed, and the battle isn't over until the stat screen appears.

Thanks to simple controls, incredible ball physics, and super-smooth gameplay, "Inferno Pool" is easy to pick up and play. However to become a true hustler players must master Combos, Bank Shots, Kick Shots, Jump Shots, and multiballs and unleash the devastation of Inferno Mode where flames fly out of the pockets and potting power is doubled. Inferno Pool includes unlockable ball designs, scalable AI opponents, practice modes, selectable arenas and table designs, stunning 60fps HD graphics, online leaderboards and challenging achievements.

The game includes classic 8 ball and 9 ball Pool modes for 1-2 players, but the real star of the show is the original Inferno Pool mode, where 1-4 local or online players pot as quickly as they can to clear their tables, while firing their potted balls to opponents tables, or stockpiling them for a later onslaught.

The game also includes a punishing Endurance Mode where players battle to pot against the clock, scalable AI opponents, stunning 60fps HD graphics, online leaderboards and challenging trophies / achievements.

Key Features:

  • Game modes: The game includes classic 8-Ball and 9-Ball pool modes for one or two players, but the real star of the show is the original Inferno Pool mode, where up to four local or online players do battle.
  • Jump right in: With a simple control scheme and silky smooth arcade gameplay, Inferno Pool is easy to pick up and play, while offering tons of depth for serious gamers.
  • Skill shots: Pull off crazy skill shots such as Multiball, Combo, Kick, Bank, and Jump Shots to rack up skill points to fill your Inferno Meter.

Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure!

Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure! is platform gaming at its most colorful. Control the rainbows to take you through the game's 10 seamlessly connected areas, as you climb from the earth to the far reaches of space. Conquer all 10 Areas in four different game modes, and customize your character's outfit with a range of quirky costumes that you can earn in the game.

Key Features:

  • Multiple game modes: Experience the complete Story Mode, try Time Attack mode, or take on the Challenge Mode that tests how far you can climb from Area 1 to 10 before losing all your lives.
  • Multiplayer modes: Play cooperatively with a friend with two Xbox 360 controllers or race to the top against other players in the frenetic action of an Xbox LIVE® Match.

Inferno Pool and Rainbow Islands: Towering Adventure! will be available on Xbox Live Wed. Oct. 28, 2009 for 800 points each.
