Sony Expands Video Delivery Service Offerings

by Rainier on Nov. 2, 2009 @ 10:44 a.m. PST

At the heart of PS3 is the Cell Broadband Engine, one of the most advanced computer processors in the world, that enables massive floating point calculation, and Blu-ray Disc (BD) drive, providing a High Definition (1080p) next-generation gaming and movie experience in the home, as well as up to 50 GB of data capacity.

Sony Computer Entertainment America announced the addition of a variety of entertainment offerings from Lucasfilm, Cinetic FilmBuff, ContentFilm International, Image Entertainment, Inc., MPI Media Group and New Video to the PlayStation Network video delivery service. The content, which will be made available on November 2, 2009 for purchase or rent, further enhances the video delivery service’s already robust library of downloadable entertainment content, including new and favorite movies, television shows, sports, anime, original entertainment, and more.

The new content partners will provide a broad range of video entertainment, including Lucasfilm Ltd.’s Star Wars™: The Clone Wars; seasons 1 and 2 of the popular TNT series Leverage (Cinetic FilmBuff); Image Entertainment, Inc. feature films such as Powder Blue and Management; the horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre from MPI Media Group; Hurly Burly and Interstate 60 from ContentFilm International; and the online miniseries Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog from New Video. Additional entertainment content will be added over time.

Available exclusively for PS3, PSP, and PSPgo, the video delivery service offers PlayStation customers access to more than 10,000 hours of downloadable entertainment content at home or on the go, including over 2,300 full-length movies and more than 14,400 television shows. PlayStation Network now boasts the most content of any downloadable video delivery service through a video game console available today, with 40 studio and network content providers, including entertainment from every major motion picture studio.
