PlayStation Network Gets VH1 and Nickelodeon Content

by Rainier on March 21, 2009 @ 12:04 a.m. PDT

Last week Sony signed an agreement to add NBC Television shows and Universal Pictures movies to the PlayStation Store’s offerings, and has now also added VH1 and Nickelodeon content.

In a little less than 24 hours after NBC content was made available there was an overwhelming number of downloads. Heroes made it the No. 2 most downloaded television series of the week, with The Office taking the No. 9 spot, with other hit NBC shows like 30 Rock, Knight Rider and SciFi Channel’s Battlestar Gallactica rounding out the other popular NBC downloads. Role Models quickly became the most downloaded movie title of the week, joining Death Race and Wanted as other welcomed Universal Pictures additions to PlayStation Store.

As an added bonus, on March 16, PlayStation Network debuted KINGS, an epic new NBC series starring Ian McShane as a modern-day monarch – offering the series premiere FREE of charge for two weeks. And as for VH1 and Nickelodeon, they’ll be launching a variety of shows on the video delivery service, many of them starting today. VH1’s Tough Love, Confessions of a Teen Idol, Sober House and Tool Academy and Nickelodeon’s Avatar and Sponge Bob Square Pants, Invader Zim, iCarly and True Jackson V.P. are just a few of the titles coming to the video delivery service.

With recent additions of NBC, Universal and MTV content the video delivery service now provides more than 6,400 piece of digital entertainment to nearly 9 million registered PSN users in the U.S. as of March 2009. In terms of content, the service has grown rapidly in less than a year and remains the premiere console platform to access content from every major motion picture studio.

PlayStation Network’s video delivery service is not the only thing growing, PlayStation® Home continues expand with more than 5 million users and new spaces to experience in the coming
weeks.
