Game Design Workshop at NYU

by Rainier on April 22, 2009 @ 5:20 p.m. PDT

The NYU Game Center, an independent multi-school center at New York University for the research, design, and development of digital games, established in fall 2008, has announced its first summer Game Design Workshop.

The new Game Design Workshop is an intensive, six-week studio course combining lectures, seminars, and hands-on projects to teach the creative and technical skills of digital game development. The workshop will take a group of students through a comprehensive course that reflects the various skills and disciplines that are brought together in modern game development: game design, programming, visual art, animation, sound design, and writing. In addition, the workshop will situate these disciplines within a larger context of game literacy and a historical and critical understanding of games as cultural objects.

The Workshop is open to the public, but space is limited, and will begin June 29, 2009. It will meet every Monday and Wednesday from 1 to 4 p.m. Non-NYU students interested can register here.

The NYU Game Center is housed in the Skirball Center for New Media at the Tisch School of the Arts and is an all NYU collaboration of the Tisch School, Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development, and Polytechnic Institute of NYU. The Center is supported by generous grants from an anonymous donor, the Rockefeller Foundation, and Sharon Chang and the TTSL Charitable Foundation.
