China Ban Actually NOT About Gold Farming

by Rainier on July 1, 2009 @ 5:52 a.m. PDT

Yesterday, we reported that the Chinese Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Commerce issued a ban on the trading of in-game currency for real cash, which we referred to as the illustrious "gold farming," but according to Professor Richard Heeks, it's rather the opposite (thanks IncGamers). Gold farming is where people buy in-game items with real cash, thus bypassing the grinding aspect of MMOs such as World of Warcraft, where the aforementioned ban refers to people buying real objects, or gambling, with in-game currency.
