'BattleForge' to Expand Card Set With Renegade Edition

by Rainier on July 20, 2009 @ 3:15 a.m. PDT

BattleForge is a new fantasy online real-time strategy game where you assemble your own army with collectible trading cards. Win, trade and buy your cards online to create your ultimate deck. Mix and match the elements of your cards to play with your friends online and conquer massive online battlegrounds.

BattleForge is an epic RTS fantasy game that combines the pace of RTS gameplay with the customization of trading cards in an online environment where friends can play together. BattleForge pioneers strategy gaming with its online multiplayer design and robust community features.

In BattleForge, players use virtual trading cards to build the perfect army and lay waste to their foes. The cards are the tools of war each representing a spell, building or unit that is conjured directly onto the battlefield. This interface enables players to customize and combine factions, and play with a unique army of their own design. With no base building and production queues, BattleForge players are instantly immersed into fast-paced RTS action.

The Renegade Edition expands the BattleForge card set with legendary units and monumental buildings from the Southern Wastes region of Nyn. The legends about the Bandits and Stonekin that you have clashed with on your crusade through the Southern Wastes now are being whispered among the mortals and the Skylords can summon them with the Forge. 60 new units and buildings will be added to the BattleForge card pool. Dual orb cards and special affinities will become available that will deepen and enrich the strategical possibilities of the decks and the combat itself.

Bandits: Ragged gangs of bandits roam the wastelands with a lust for plunder. Bandits are remarkably versatile, with troops ranging from fast moving infantry units up to heavy artillery. If kept in line, these bandit forces will prove to be even fiercer than the Twilight.

Stonekin: Searching for their giant master's treasure, the Stonekin elementals now have a strong presence in the wastelands. They are massive, heavily armored brutes and even while they lack fast moving units, each single one of them packs enough punch to take out a small army.

Dual Orb: The main specialty of the Renegades is versatility and independence which reflects in their dual orb nature. They are not governed by one power alone but are able to tap into a second power to unlock additional special abilities or be generally more flexible in the way they fit into your deck. Bandits will use the wild fire and the vicious shadow as sources of their power, while Stonekin are attuned with the might of Frost and Nature. These cards can not only fit well into a dual colored deck, but their special abilities might unlock the prime advantages of each of the two powers for them, allowing for new tactics and deck variations.

BattleForge: The Renegade Edition is expected to become available in Aug. 2009.

BattleForge features single-player and cooperative scenarios, as well as, Player vs. Player (PvP) ranked duels. Co-op battles are played in teams of two or four, or players can hurl themselves into epic 12 player battles for the greatest rewards. In these scenarios, players must work cooperatively to fulfill the mission and earn rewards. With co-op play, guilds, chat rooms, and a robust marketplace featuring direct trade, an auction hall, and in-game mail, BattleForge is the first RTS to combine the social and community aspects of an MMO with an exciting RTS.

Featuring action-packed co-op and PvP, the ability to build your own army, and robust community features, BattleForge offers unique RTS gameplay that is easy to learn but still prepared to handle expert players.

Players can use BattleForge Points to purchase new cards in booster packs. Booster packs contain eight cards - 5 common, 2 un-common, 1 rare or ultra rare, all for just 250 BattleForge points.
