Presenting tactical, immersive warfare on a scale never seen before in a shooter, the new video demonstrates how Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising takes gamers to the vast 220 km² island of Skira, a rigorously researched and meticulously recreated battlefield, located off the eastern coast of Russia and north of Japan. The game authentically recreates conflict on a 360-degree theatre of war, allowing players to approach objectives on Skira from any direction. On this immense and realistic battlefield, where one bullet can kill, players face the fear and mortality felt by soldiers immersed in deadly modern warfare as they are challenged to survive the rapidly evolving situations of battle.

As the epic campaign unfold, players will fight as US Marines Infantry and Special Operations Forces fireteam leaders against the military might of a division from the People’s Liberation Army of China, in an attempt to prevent a flashpoint engagement over oil erupting into a full blown international war. From intense fire fights through to paced tactical decision making, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising recreates the brutal reality of the modern combat experience with serious attention to the detail of the weapons, equipment and tactics of the armed forces.

In addition to the extensive single player campaign, an in-depth co-op multiplayer component will be featured, enabling squads of four players to work tactically through the intense campaign together. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is set to deliver the most accessible, engaging and visceral sandbox shooter of the year

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising's Executive Producer Sion Lenton, Chief Games Designer Tim Browne and Chief Level Designer James Nicholls explain how 'Hardcore Mode' has been developed with fan feedback to deliver the ultimate challenge in the authentic sandbox shooter.

“We take all of the HUD off, there's nothing there at all, no cross hair, no compass, you're all on your own other than a map. This is about as hardcore as it gets,” explains Executive Producer Sion Lenton. “I think the hardest thing that we set out to achieve, that I'm certainly most proud of, is putting the fear back into first person shooters, getting that element of tension as you're creeping through the woods, not knowing where the next shot's going to come from.“

“What makes an Operation Flashpoint mission special is that it's so open world in nature. In most games you're drawn through a very narrow corridor whereas in Operation Flashpoint you really are left open to translate your orders as you see fit,” says Chief Level Designer James Nicholls. “There's a lot of room for manoeuvre and to adapt your tactics on the fly.”
