'Call of Duty: Black Ops' (ALL) Launch Event Headlined By Metallica

by Rainier on Nov. 1, 2010 @ 3:23 p.m. PDT

Call of Duty: Black Ops takes players behind enemy lines in an entirely new chapter in the first-person action series. Black Ops is set during the Cold War era featuring at least two main characters, multiplayer that goes beyond the single-player story, and a two- to four-player co-op mode.

Call of Duty: Black Ops will take you behind enemy lines as a member of an elite special forces unit engaging in covert warfare, classified operations, and explosive conflicts across the globe. With access to exclusive weaponry and equipment, your actions will tip the balance during the most dangerous time period mankind has ever known.

Call of Duty: Black Ops will be compatible with 3D-ready HDTVs and 3D PCs utilizing state-of-the-art active shutter 3D glasses, delivering true depth of field and an unprecedented level of immersion that is perfectly suited for the Call of Duty action experience.  Call of Duty: Black Ops will be playable in both 3D and non-3D on the Xbox 360,  PS3 and PC.

Call of Duty: Black Ops for PC is NVIDIA 3D Vision-Ready and supports stereoscopic 3D gaming using 3D Vision active-shutter glasses and NVIDIA GeForce GPUs, while on Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles, 3D features require a compatible 3D-ready HD TV.

Metallica has partnered with Activision to headline the Call of Duty: Black Ops launch event on Nov. 4 at Santa Monica Airport's Hangar 8. The event will feature a performance by the Grammy-Award winning band, honor the six branches of the Armed Forces and raise $1 million for The Call of Duty Endowment, a non-profit, public benefit corporation founded by Activision Blizzard that helps soldiers with the transition to civilian life and help them establish jobs and careers.

"We are honored to have Metallica partner with us to pay tribute to the brave servicemen and women who have risked their lives at war only to return home to find their biggest challenge is searching for a job," stated Robert Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. "Today, the unemployment rate for veterans is 21% higher than the rate for all Americans, with veterans' unemployment topping 500,000. We believe that the business community can and should do more. Through The Call of Duty Endowment, we are committed to raising millions of dollars for job assistance and training programs for veterans and raising public awareness for this serious issue."
