'Runes of Magic' To Introduce New Pet System

by Rainier on June 8, 2010 @ 8:19 a.m. PDT

With an extensive range of features Runes of Magic prepares to redefine the standard of free-to-play MMO games. Even at the beginning Runes of Magic conveys its absorbing story in over 5,000 quests embedded in an atmospheric world.

Runes of Magic has redefined the standard for free-to-play MMORPGs in terms of gameplay, fun and quality. The online role-playing game has an exciting, multi-layered story, driven by more than 2,400 quests set in the fantasy world of Taborea. To date, Runes of Magic has attracted more than three million registered users, making it one of the most successful free-to-play titles on the market, and a must play game for all fans of RPGs and MMO games.

Runes of Magic features a unique dual class system enabling players to combine one of eight primary classes with a secondary class. The result is a deep player experience that expands upon the game’s broad customization offering. There are two different playable races, Elves and Humans, from which players can choose. Each dual class combination produces its own powerful elite skills. Another popular feature is the opportunity to furnish your own virtual home, and guilds can construct guild castles, which can be expanded with additional buildings. Thanks to comprehensive crafting and reputation systems, gripping PvP features, deep customization and demanding dungeons, Runes of Magic has something for everyone. Taiwanese developer Runewaker regularly expands the game world with new free content and challenges.

Since the main release of the third chapter of Runes of Magic -The Elder Kingdoms last week, a range of new features have been available to players, including the new ‘Set-Skill System’. This system allows players on level 50 and above to add new and diverse skills to their characters by collecting armor sets.

The next Warnorken Castle expansion to the third chapter of Runes of Magic, due in late June, will bring with it a selection of new features to Chapter III – The Elder Kingdoms, one of them being over 100 virtual pets with a range of new functions.

Players will be able to access the new pets after completing a specific quest where they can receive pet eggs after defeating an NPC opponent. Once players have summoned their useful companions a wide range of skills will be made available to them. The pets can be managed, cared for, and even combined together using an extensive menu. These pets can also be allocated various attributes such as experience, talent and loyalty which directly have various effects on players’ characters. For instance, the loyalty value of a pet will directly determine the probability of it attacking an opponent. The more trained and  content a pet is, the more strongly it will support its master in battle or in producing crafting materials. Players can also benefit from effective buffs during combat depending on their pets’ attributes. To begin with players will be able to own up to six pets and will be able to summon one of them at any one time. Two extra slots will be activated in the future.
