'Def Jam Rapstar' (ALL) Launches The You Don't Know Rap Challenge

by Rainier on July 6, 2010 @ 10:39 a.m. PDT

Def Jam Rapstar delivers players a hip-hop experience that allows you to not only take on the role of a rap star so you can rhyme and sing along with the greatest hip-hop tracks, but also the opportunities to create all new rhymes, sharing your creativity and expressing yourself to the wider community.

Def Jam Rapstar captures the essence of what Hip Hop is all about:  the music, the battles and of course...the swagger.

The ultimate emcee experience for video game consoles, Def Jam Rapstar is the only music game that focuses exclusively on Hip Hop. With more than 40 of the greatest Hip Hop songs available at release, including region specific music for the UK and Europe, Def Jam Rapstar allows you to be the star: by rhyming, using your console camera, and uploading your video to the fully integrated Def Jam Rapstar community at the official website. Def Jam Rapstar also offers you the ability to freestyle over tracks by some of the hottest hip hop producers and upload your freestyle performances for the world to decide how good you really are.

In addition, Def Jam Rapstar is proud to reveal the next seven songs featured in the game, including Drake’s “Best I Ever Had,” Outkast’s “So Fresh, So Clean,” Ice Cube’s “It Was A Good Day” and more. Def Jam Rapstar is also excited to announce DJ Premier and Just Blaze as the first confirmed producers who will be providing exclusive instrumental beats for Def Jam Rapstar’s Freestyle Mode, which allows the aspiring emcee a chance to deliver their own original rhymes over never before heard tracks by some of today’s hottest producers.

DO YOU:

  • Know the name of Ice Cube's first rap group?
  • Who is known as the "original human beat box"?
  • What TV show did Drake appear on?

If not, THEN YOU DON'T KNOW RAP!

In anticipation of the October 5th release of Def Jam Rapstar, the first true interactive Hip Hop music game experience for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, Def Jam Interactive and 4mm Games present the Def Jam Rapstar You Don’t Know Rap challenge, a free online trivia game widget that will test your Hip Hop knowledge.

The You Don't Know Rap challenge features five levels for players to progress through, answering timed questions in categories covering Lyrics, True/False, Trivia, History and Slang, all culminating in an Elimination round. As player's progress, each level gets more difficult and the player has less time to answer the questions.

Players unlock badges upon completion of levels, from Newcomer to Headliner to Rapstar. Want to earn the Speed Spitter badge? Then answer any question in less than one second. Want to be the Champion? Complete more than 5 Elimination round questions and earn that coveted Champion badge.

For those players that do know rap, you can share links to your scores and the game itself through your Facebook page. For those that don't know rap, well, you can always play again and hope to increase your score.
