Cohort Studios Shuts Down

by Rainier on April 25, 2011 @ 12:48 a.m. PDT

Scotland based developer Cohort Studios was founded in 2006 and was an official developer across all current home console formats., having a staff of over 25 people. Unfortunately after five years the studio known for various Buzz! titles as well as The Shoot, has shut down.

Cohort Studios is wholly owned by its three founding directors; Lol Scragg (CEO), Bruce McNeish (CTO) and Darran Thomas (CCO), who between them have over 46 years of experience in game development, having worked on projects for companies as diverse as Psygnosis, Bullfrog, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Electronic Arts (EA) and Visual Science.  Cohort Studios is responsible for bringing the hugely successful ‘Buzz! Junior’ franchise to the PS3 platform and most recently ‘The Shoot’; a first party PlayStation Move launch title for SCEE, released in October 2010.

Dr Richard Wilson, TIGA CEO, said: TIGA is hugely saddened to hear the Dundee based independent studio, Cohort Studios, will be making these redundancies. Their expertise is highly regarded throughout the industry in developing for PlayStation 3, PSP, PlayStation Network, PlayStation 2 and PC platforms. We have worked closely with Cohort over the last few years and have seen firsthand the talent and drive that went into the business. TIGA would like to place on record our admiration for Cohort and all they have achieved in the past five years. We wish Lol Scragg and the rest of the team at Cohort Studios every success in the future.”
