by Rainier on April 27, 2011 @ 12:00 a.m. PDT

Crytek announced that more than 250 universities from all over the world have signed up for a free CryENGINE 3 educational license over the past 12 months.

Academic institutions in a wide variety of fields including physics, computer science, architecture, film-making, art and design use Crytek’s all-in-one game development solution for their projects.

“We are absolutely delighted by the huge interest that academics from all around the globe have shown in CryENGINE 3. It’s really an honor for us to be considered the first-choice technology for so many leading universities. We consider them as strong partners, both in developing great software and improving our engine; and are really interested in further expanding those relationships.” said Carl Jones, Director of Global Business Development – CryENGINE.

The CryENGINE 3 Educational SDK is for educators who want to ensure that their students gain experience with state-of-the-art game development and real-time 3D technology. For courses and research projects in game development, 3D graphics, simulation, architecture, animation, film and design, CryENGINE 3 is the most up-to-date, real-time 3D technology available.

Crytek’s Managing Director Avni Yerli explained the importance of that branch: “From its very first days, Crytek aimed to strongly support students and educators by sharing the CryENGINE tools with universities. Thousands of students now have access to the same cutting-edge technology that the world’s best developers are using for their ongoing projects. With our CryENGINE 3 educational SDK we want to enable them to achieve their vision and create their very own innovation to become the next generation of developers.”

As well as the Educational SDK Crytek offers a Game Development SDK for professional game developers and a Simulation SDK for serious games applications. More information can be found on the recently re-launched www.mycryengine.com website.
