Disney Interactive Recruits Bill Roper As Marvel VP

Disney Interactive Media Group has appointed seasoned video game executive Bill Roper, previously at Cryptic Studios and Blizzard, as Vice President, Marvel Franchise.

Roper will report to Alex Seropian, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Core Games, who made the announcement today.

In his role, Roper will be responsible for establishing the long term strategy and the future creative direction and vision for DIMG published Marvel Games. He will also identify key talent and developers to partner with on product development.

“We are pleased to have Bill join our team,” said Seropian. “With 17 years of experience in the worldwide gaming industry, we are confident that Bill has the creative vision necessary to help guide the next wave of development and product for DIMG’s Marvel Games.”

“I am excited to be working with Alex and the entire Marvel team,” said Roper.  “Marvel is known for their enormous catalog of incredible characters and I look forward to bringing them to life across all video game platforms.”

Prior to joining Cryptic Studios as Chief Creative Officer in 2008, Roper began his career at Blizzard Entertainment in 1994. During his time with Blizzard, Roper went on to serve as the Director of Third Party Development and then Director of Developer Relations. In 2001, he was appointed Vice President of Blizzard North, which developed the international sensation Diablo II. His contributions were instrumental in the success of the Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo game franchises.

Roper has nearly two decades worth of product development experience that encompasses game design and creative development as well as respected knowledge of the design, development, and production of critically-acclaimed, best-selling games and globally recognized franchises.

He was a featured keynote speaker at the Shanghai Game Developers Conference in 2010 and at the Tencent GDOC in Shenzhen in May of this year.
