'Dillon's Rolling Western: The Last Ranger' (3DS) Coming To eShop

by Rainier on June 25, 2013 @ 8:14 a.m. PDT

Join Dillon, the ranger armadillo, helped by squirrel sidekick Russ, on an all-new quest across the Wild West as he defends villages and their scrogs livestock against the onslaught of the fearsome rock monsters, the Grock.

Dillon’s Rolling Western: The Last Ranger will put your strategic planning skills to the test, as well as your responsiveness and dexterity in the heat of battle. With a unique blend of melee combat and resource gathering, this action tower defence game will be available to download for the 3DS exclusively on Nintendo eShop from 27th June, and will be available as a special 30% launch offer until 4th July only (€6.99 / £6.2).

In this new outing, Dillon does not stand alone. During the course of the story, you can recruit a troop of three bodyguards with a set of unique skills to help you survive each level. These include the slithery lizard Gallo, the Coin Killer; Boone, the powerful Berserk Shooter bear; and Nomad, a deadly squid Assassin.

There are also new challenges to face in this sequel to Dillon’s Rolling Western. In certain scenarios, Dillon will be forced to defend not just villages against the marauding Grock, but also a train that is speeding through the surrounding countryside. These new features are set in a much larger environment, with the maps more expansive than the original Dillon’s Rolling Western, and can be divided into separate areas. Dillon will be tested by defending a variety of villages, each with different terrains, Grocks and obstacles for you to master. Once you do manage to overcome these challenges, you can share tips on how to complete the level with other players on StreetPass.

As the hours go by, you will have to adapt your strategy as Dillon is faced with new challenges. Grock stay away from sunlight so make the most of the daytime to build static defences around each village, including watch towers and gun towers, to do all you can to fortify the village gates as the last line of defence. As dusk falls, Grock creep up from the cracks in the ground to hunt down the cute scrogs. If you have prepared well, your gun towers will destroy some of your enemies, but the ultimate safety of the village will ultimately come down to your fighting skills against the rest of the hordes of Grock. Using the stylus, you can control Dillon’s fast-paced combat moves like rolling and charging, as well as advanced moves like clawing and tunnelling that become available as you progress through the villages.

As dusk turns to night and the Grock are successfully defeated, Dillon must survey the damage and prepare for tomorrow’s onslaught. Take the time to practice your attacking skills – you’re going to need them. You can also earn extra money completing side quests for other characters, who are found in the saloon. These funds can to be used to build defences, heal Dillon with a nourishing meal and increase his abilities with a new wardrobe.
