Windforge is a 2D building-block RPG that will empower players with the freedom to create elaborate structures and airships used for exploration and combat in the skies.

Build airships and explore hostile skies in an ever changing Steampunk world. Everything you see can be created or destroyed, creating an RPG without barriers that rewards creative problem solving and improvisation. Take off in fully customizable airships, and embark on a journey of discovery and survival that will take you to the heart of the world and beyond This project has been funded to date by the studio itself, coupled with financial support from the Ontario Media Development Corporation’s Digital Media Fund.

The modern way of life on Cordeus is reliant on refined Sky Whale oil. Everything from the machines used daily, to the food that is eaten, is ultimately dependent on the oil. The citizens of Cordeus are so hungry for oil, that the once abundant population of Sky Whales is dwindling. At current rate, the noble species will face certain extinction in a few short years. To avoid falling back into the dark ages, civilization must find a new source of energy. It is said that an ancient people named the Aetherkin had exotic sources of energy. Energy more powerful than anything any human has ever seen. Unfortunately, research related to the Aetherkin is strictly forbidden by law. In an attempt to save humanity’s way of life, YOU have been secretly hired to uncover this ancient energy source.

The game has been partially funded by a Kickstarter campaign, which ran from November 6 to December 6, 2013, and was successful thanks to the backers who got behind the title to contribute just over $50,000 to complete the game.

This financial contribution allowed Snowed In Studios, who offer work-for-hire game development services, to continue production and bring their first original title to market as planned.

'We had a difficult choice to make, to keep working on the game with the help of the WindForge community or to shorten production and launch the game in the fall. Running the campaign takes time and resources and we were not sure what was the right thing to do, given the statistics on how many Kickstarters fail,' says Jean-Sylvain Sormany, the president of Snowed in Studios. 'We literally did not know if we made the right decision or not until the very last minute. We met our goal with only 62 seconds on the clock, so it was pretty tight!'
