'Grey Goo' Gets Release Date - Trailer

Grey Goo blends classic, established gameplay mechanics and tropes with modern design tools and technology to create a thoughtful, exhilarating strategy experience.

Petroglyph is bringing decades of combined RTS expertise to bear with Grey Goo. The game draws on the best aspects of base building, unit management and all-out warfare for an all-new space saga, removing the tedium and frustration often associated with the genre and focusing on deep, engaging tactical systems modeled on vintage RTS gameplay.

Grey Goo features three distinct factions - the Beta, Humans and Goo - each with its own truly distinctive style, strategies and “epic” units (very powerful, rare combatants that tower over the battlefield). The game features an immersive single-player campaign and competitive multiplayer options. Both single and multiplayer modes require diligent planning and intelligent decision making to capitalize on the sophisticated build tree system and multiple tech upgrades available. Built from the ground up based on real-world Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) concepts, Grey Goo’s adaptive AI studies and reacts to players’ actions, learning rather than running off scripts for a truly unique play experience and near-infinite replay value. In short, every game is different.

Back in August, our plan was to start Alpha testing in order to get comprehensive feedback on the game, and then ramp up from there. What ended up happening is that our testing phases, including Closed Alpha, provided us with such valuable information on subjects like balance, stability, fun factor and more – that we were able to double down, start working on these things, and come up with a final road map that would take us straight to launch.

We know that many of you were hoping to be involved in a more full-blown Beta Testing phase. However, instead, we have been focused on using the data we received to improve the game so that we can get Grey Goo into your hands and onto your computer as soon as possible.

Until then, we have plans to bring a lot of really cool information and initiatives your way. You may have noticed that we've been conducting some Grey Goo live streams on Twitch. To add to that, in the upcoming months you can expect dev diaries, gameplay/team videos, and fascinating information related to Grey Goo’s backstory. We think this content will convince you more than ever that Grey Goo is the next RTS game you’ll want to play.
