'Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag' (ALL) Freedom Cry DLC Becomes Standalone - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Feb. 5, 2014 @ 5:59 p.m. PST

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is set in the 1700s during the Golden Age of Piracy, letting you roam the Caribbean islands as Edward Kenway, grandfather of AC III's main character Ratonhnhaké:ton, aka Connor.

Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag tells the story of Edward Kenway, a young British man with a thirst for danger and adventure, who falls from privateering for the Royal Navy into piracy as the war between the major Empires comes to an end. Edward is a fierce pirate and seasoned fighter who soon finds himself embroiled in the ancient war between Assassins and Templars. Set at the dawn of the 18th Century, the game features some of the most infamous pirates in history, such as Blackbeard and Charles Vane, and takes players on a journey throughout the West Indies during a turbulent and violent period of time later to become known as the Golden Age of Pirates.

Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag features a vast open world with more than 50 navigable locations. Combat combines the weaponry of the Assassin’s Order with armaments of the era, and rewards both daring and stealth. And the series’ acclaimed multiplayer experience is more varied and ruthless than ever in Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag.

Freedom Cry is a nine mission self-contained story featuring Edward Kenway’s first mate Adewale. Born a slave, Adewale found freedom as a pirate aboard the Jackdaw as captain Edward Kenway’s second-in-command. Fifteen years later, Adewale has become a trained assassin and finds himself shipwrecked in Saint-Domingue with no weapons or crew, starting a new adventure of his own.

The Standalone Edition of Freedom Cry offers:

  • Brutal Assassin: Beyond an exceptional sailor and pirate, Adéwalé is a melee master, wielding devastating weapons such as his signature machete and deadly blunderbuss.
  • Unique Environment: Port au Prince, Haiti serves as the verdant backdrop as you rebuild the Maroon slave resistance in an attempt to overthrow the deeply-entrenched slave trade.
  • Peril on The High Seas: Command the Experto Crede, Adéwalé’s cherished brig, and improve it as you play through upgrades and collectibles!

For players interested in the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Season Pass, it’s available now and includes Freedom Cry, as well as the exclusive Kraken Ship Pack, additional single-player missions, weapons, skins and collectibles, including the Blackbeard’s Wrath add-on content as well as upcoming new characters for an expansive multiplayer experience.

Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry will be available exclusively for download on PS4 and PS3 for $14.99, the PC for $14.99.
