'Bayonetta 2' (WiiU) Reveals Costumes, Characters, And More - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Sept. 4, 2014 @ 11:35 p.m. PDT

Brimming with intricate battles that take place in, on and all over epic set pieces, Bayonetta 2 finds our sassy heroine battling angels and demons in unearthly beautiful HD.

The witching hour strikes again.

You’re bound to love how it feels to string together combos with unimaginable weapons and to summon demons using Bayonetta’s Umbran Weave in this frantic stylized action game.

Nintendo announced that the cosplay options available in the original Bayonetta game will also be available in Bayonetta 2. These include Bayonetta’s wild takes on Princess Peach, Daisy, Link and Samus. But a surprise interstellar mercenary is also given the costume treatment: an outfit reminiscent of Fox McCloud, hero of the Star Fox games, was also revealed for Bayonetta 2.

Also revealed was Rodin as a playable character in Bayonetta 2’s multiplayer Tag Climax mode and showed off the first footage of multiplayer action.

The original Bayonetta game would be included with the packaged version of Bayonetta 2, available in stores at a suggested retail price of $59.99. But Nintendo detailed the pricing plan for the downloadable versions of the games for players who opt to purchase both digitally. When buying both games separately in the Nintendo eShop on Wii U, a special discount will be applied during the purchase process, making the total for both games just $59.98.

The Nintendo Direct also provided more details about previously announced features of Bayonetta 2, including characters, storyline, combat mechanics, weapons, magic, Bayonetta’s trademark Torture Attacks and the new Umbran Climax. Viewers will learn about Muspelheim challenge rooms, how the ranking system works and how to spend their hard-fought Halos to buy items and skills or modify weapons. It’s a must-watch for anyone who wants to be ready to take down opponents in style.

Key Features:

  • Initiate the new Umbran Climax technique to temporarily summon demons and boost Bayonetta’s attack range whenever you fill her magic gauge.
  • Fight with new over-the-top weapons that open new possibilities to the way you battle, including the Kafka, a bow that shoots poisonous arrows; the Rakshasa, a pair of beautiful katana blades; and a giant rifle-inspired scythe known as the Chernobog.
  • Team up with a friend in Tag Climax, a two-player online co-op mode.
  • In online quick matches, you can wager halos, the in-game currency that you earn by defeating enemies. You receive a large sum back if you can prove you’re a better fighter than your partner. Halos can then be traded in a story mode shop to unlock new techniques, buy accessories and pick up alternate
    weapon variations.
  • Every chapter ends with a medal ranking: Stone, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum or Pure Platinum. The more skilled you are, the higher your ranking.
  • This game is approachable for players of all levels, with settings of three difficulty levels. Through Touch Play, you can play with the GamePad’s stylus and touch screen, regardless of which difficulty you choose.

The original Bayonetta game, complete with some Nintendo cosplay options for the powerful heroine, comes bundled with the retail packaged version of Bayonetta 2.
