New Nintendo 3DS XL To Make Its Debut At PAX South

by Rainier on Jan. 20, 2015 @ 1:00 p.m. PST

New Nintendo 3DS XL offers a number of new enhancements, featuring a wider range of controls with the addition of a C Stick and ZL/ZR buttons, stable 3D via face-tracking technology and built-in NFC functionality for communication with amiibo figures.

During the first PAX South event in San Antonio, Texas, from Jan. 23 to Jan. 25, Nintendo is giving fans a chance to get some hands-on time with the New Nintendo 3DS XL system before it launches in the U.S. on Feb. 13. Upcoming 3DS games The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, which both use the enhanced features of New Nintendo 3DS XL, will also be available to play.

New Nintendo 3DS XL provides a number of new enhancements designed to offer the smoothest and most engrossing portable gaming experience possible. The system features a wider range of controls with the addition of a C Stick and ZL/ZR buttons, beautifully enhanced super-stable 3D via face-tracking technology and built-in NFC functionality that allows for communication with amiibo figures. The system also has faster processing power than the Nintendo 3DS system, which allows some software to start up faster. The increase in CPU power also allows improved download speeds and smoother transitions when switching between software and when using Miiverse. (Download speeds may vary depending on Internet connections.)

PAX South runs for three days, and fans of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask definitely know the importance of a 72-hour timeline within the game. To celebrate the upcoming launch of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D on Feb. 13, Nintendo is hosting a “72-Hour Mask Challenge,” which asks fans to create their own personalized masks. For more details, stay tuned to the Nintendo of America Twitter account (@NintendoAmerica).

In addition to playing New Nintendo 3DS XL and many fun games, visitors to the Nintendo booth (#1234) at PAX South will have the opportunity to take photos with a real-life replica of the Majora’s Mask and receive paper versions to wear around the convention (while supplies last). Fans that come dressed in costumes inspired by The Legend of Zelda will be able to bypass lines to get hands-on time with The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D.

Nintendo 3DS games scheduled to be shown include:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D (Nintendo)
  • Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (Capcom)
  • Super Smash Bros. for 3DS (Nintendo)
