'PlanetSide 2' (ALL) Launches Closed Beta On PS4

by Rainier on Jan. 20, 2015 @ 4:31 p.m. PST

PlanetSide 2 is an all-out planetary war, where thousands of players battle as one across enormous continents while utilizing infantry, ground & air vehicles, and teamwork to destroy your enemies in this first-person shooter on a massive scale.

Across the continents of Auraxis, thousands of players will come together in enormous battles to win control of territory and resources for their empire. With an extensive skill tree and a free-form class-based system, players will be able to customize their soldier, weapons and vehicles to match their play-style, or the needs of their squad, outfit or empire. Battles can last for days or weeks, so players will need to build real alliances and combat outfits to take on long-term strategic and tactical initiatives. With air, ground and seaborne combat, the battles are more intense than ever.

Various character, vehicle and artillery customization features will be available to players constructing the perfect fighter for their favorite of the three empires: The Terran Republic (the conservative, authoritative nation aiming to reunite the clashing factions), The New Conglomerate (a liberated faction fighting to remaining free) or The Vanu Sovereignty (technophiles seeking to develop and exploit alien technology). Also, an in-depth and adaptive class system – with ranks, unlockable traits and skill sets – will give players complete control over their online warrior.

As the only PS4 game that brings massive communities of players together to fight simultaneously across enormous battles, PlanetSide 2 offers a truly massive world combat conflict. Players can still register for the Closed Beta, which begins today with a few thousand initial invites followed by a steady increase throughout the Beta period. Players will be invited to Beta chronologically and can opt in by email for a chance to participate in Closed Beta via the PlanetSide 2 website.

"PlanetSide 2 is defined by its massive size and strong camaraderie amongst players, making it an exceptional fit for the PlayStation 4's powerful hardware and social community," said Clint Worley, Executive Producer, PlanetSide 2. "We didn't just create a port -- we created a full console first-person shooter experience. The Closed Beta allows us to gain invaluable player feedback, ensuring a heart-pounding, action-packed massive experience at launch."

The Beta period for PlanetSide 2 on PlayStation 4 will enable SOE to test servers, performance and various other aspects of the game. Players in Beta are fully encouraged to offer constructive feedback through community forums and official PlanetSide 2 social channels.

PlanetSide 2 closed beta is now available for the PS4 in the United States, though the Beta will expand to future countries and territories in the near future.
