'World Ship Simulator' Coming To Steam Early Access Next Week - Screens

by Rainier on Nov. 3, 2015 @ 8:38 a.m. PST

In a fictitious environment but with landmarks drawn from around the world and challenges inspired by real-life ports, this vibrant simulator comes alive with a host of thrilling new dynamics and challenges drawn from life on-board.

Weigh anchor on the open seas and begin your career in the maritime industry. Start from humble beginnings with a single ship and complete a selection of jobs that earn you experience to take on more demanding opportunities with greater rewards. Use your earned cash to repair your vessel and purchase new ships.

World Ship Simulator comes to Steam Early Access courtesy of a brand new development team charged with taking the best elements of Excalibur's first foray into the ship simulation genre (European Ship Simulator) and expanding and refining the gameplay with a view to quickly establishing the game as the go-to ship simulation title on PC and Mac.

This Early Access launch features three new and three remodeled ships to offer a broad experience of all aspects of shipping and sailing.  Using Unity 5, the new development team has brought together a number of new features designed to stimulate the die-hard enthusiast.  These include a brand new career mode with complete missions that are challenging to complete and truly develop the player's experience. The open-world environment allows for sailing between the three ports that are available with this Early Access version.  Further development will expand the ability to sail from port to port in a totally free-roam world.

Ships & Vessels: The three new vessels are the tugboat, the fishing boat and a hovercraft.  We have also remodeled three of the most popular ships from European Ship Simulator.  These are: the port boat, an essential vessel for large ports, the luxury yacht and the bulk carrier. Each one presents specific challenges you'd expect to move these vessels out of the harbor.

Free Play Mode: Set sail immediately with our default Free Play mode. Sail around all the environs available to you and practice controlling and steering in random weather conditions such as rain and fog.  The water dynamics will challenge you further as you battle against the elements.

Career Mode: In this mode the player will need to select and complete a variety of missions bespoke to the vessel. Whilst these may prove moderately easy to complete in the early stages, as with building a career in real life, the challenge increases to test your skill.  Successfully completing a mission will unlock further missions, each presenting increasing difficulty whilst allowing the player to earn money and demonstrate a proven skill level.

AI Crews and New Camera Angles: All the crew on each vessel have been built with AI and can be interacted with. Inspect damage that has resulted from poor handling and a lack of experience.  In Career mode, such damage will cost dearly, demonstrating the importance of improving skill levels.

Early Access & Beyond: Excalibur is firmly committed to building and expanding our ship simulation world and to consistently adding and improving the plans for future features.  Further vessels and ships are already in the pipeline and improved weather and water dynamics will be advanced as the game matures.
