'Broken Age' (ALL) Act 2 Goes Gold

by Rainier on March 23, 2015 @ 8:34 a.m. PDT

Broken Age is a point-and-click adventure telling the stories of a young boy and girl leading parallel lives.

Broken Age tells the story of Vella Tartine and Shay Volta, two teenagers in strangely similar situations but radically different worlds. The player can freely switch between their stories, helping them take control of their own lives and dealing with the unexpected adventures that follow.

The girl has been chosen by her village to be sacrificed to a terrible monster--but she decides to fight back. Meanwhile, a boy on a spaceship is living a solitary life under the care of a motherly computer, but he wants to break free to lead adventures and do good in the world. Adventures ensue.

The development of Broken Age began began two years ago in a historic, record-breaking Kickstarter campaign—and Act 1 of the game is nearly here, in all its beautiful, 2D, hand-painted glory, with an original orchestral soundtrack and an all-star vocal cast starring Elijah Wood, Jack Black, Wil Wheaton, Jennifer Hale, Pendleton Ward, Masasa Moyo, and many more.

The development of Broken Age began began two years ago in a historic, record-breaking Kickstarter campaign, but the scope of the game became so large that the intial $3,336,371 funding was not enough to cover the entire game. As such Double Fine decided to release the game in two parts, hoping the revenue from Ep.1 would be enough to cover the development cost of the second, and final, part.

Double Fine's revealed that the conclusion to Broken Age has gone gold

Soooooooo, we’ve got something exciting to tell you all. WE JUST LOCKED THE BROKEN AGE RELEASE CANDIDATE!! After a solid month of pure bug squashing we have a build that’s looking super duper polished and ready to roll. Big props to the entire team for absolutely killing it and delivering something that really is everything we hoped it would be and more. I know it’s been a long wait, so thanks again for being so patient with us and allowing us to take the time we needed to make the game as good as possible!

So now what?! The build will sit in test for the next week while everyone on the team looks for any remaining issues that may have slipped through the cracks. Then it’s off to PlayStation 4 and Vita certification as well as pressing discs for the PC/Mac/Linux retail copy from our pals at Nordic Games. Those processes can take around a month, during which time we’ll be packaging up and prepping the iOS, Android, and Ouya builds so we can hit with everything on the same day! Speaking of the release date....

We’re going to announce the release date next week as part of a bunch of coverage that IGN is going to be running on the game throughout the week! It will all be on the front page of IGN, so keep an eye out for that news, as well as an interview with Tim and preview coverage of Act 2! Should be an awesome way to kick off formal promotion of the game’s release!

The Act 2 conclusion of Broken Age will be available as a free update for all owners of the game.
