'Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare' (ALL) Crossbuy Owners Get Free Update to Gold Edition

by Judy Kwong on April 10, 2015 @ 12:08 a.m. PDT

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare envisions battlegrounds of the future, where both technology and tactic have evolved to usher in a new era of combat for the franchise.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare jolts players forward in a groundbreaking experience that's ripped-from-the-headlines-of-tomorrow, envisioning a future where both technology and tactics have evolved to usher in a new era of combat for the franchise. Set in the year 2054, a private military corporation (PMC) has emerged with the power to rescue humanity from a devastated world struggling to rebuild after a global attack on its military and infrastructure. You are the advanced soldier. Empowered with new, cutting-edge exoskeleton abilities, technological advancements and high-tech gear, players join the ranks of a highly-trained, specialized unit committed to restoring order in a state of advanced warfare.

With the expanded production capabilities, Sledgehammer Games is able to create an astonishing new, next generation experience, featuring an array of technical advancements from the sights and sounds that create a near photo realistic world unlike any Call of Duty before, to new performance capture and facial animation technologies that deliver lifelike characters, to a rich and immersive story that brings the fiction to life.

When Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare launched last fall, Activision was running a promotion which offered cross-buy privileges to anyone who purchased the last gen digital version. Buyers of the last gen digital version, got the current gen digital version for free. That offer expired on March 31, 2015.

On April 7, the Xbox One digital storefront was updated. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was replaced with the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Gold Edition. The Gold Edition includes the game, the Havoc DLC and the Atlas Gorge bonus map. It appears that the replacement has a side benefit for those who got their Xbox One copies via cross-buy.

Players who got their Xbox One digital copies of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare via cross-buy can navigate to the Gold Edition on the Xbox One storefront and add it to their account for free. This can be done directly on the console, or via the Xbox website. If you are eligible for the offer, the price will be listed as $0.00. Once added, you can download the two pieces of DLC, which normally retail for an additional $20.

NOTE: Players who purchased the Xbox One version of the game directly, or redeemed a pre-paid code for it, are not eligible for the free upgrade. Players with a physical disc are also not eligible for the free upgrade.
