'Hush' (ALL) Announced, Seeks Crowd Funding - Trailer

by Rainier on April 4, 2015 @ 10:47 a.m. PDT

Hush is a challenging action-adventure game about our childhood fears, inspired by nightmares and dreams alike.

Hush draws its inspiration from fears, particularly those we have all experienced when we were young.

This is the story of Ashlyn, she finds herself on an orphanage forgotten by time, surrounded by blood frizzing phobias that will try to absorb you into oblivion.

Your goal is to help Ashlyn face these fears, and use them at your advantage in order to escape this nightmarish place. During this journey, you’ll find yourself roaming through all sorts of environments that would bring out your most profound phobia. Also during the adventure, you’ll get help from the inhabitants of this house called The Forgotten. These little figures will tell you about all the suffering that they've been through as victims of all these fears and give you hints on what awaits you.

Game Studio 78 has launched a kickstarter campaign, looking for $146,795, to finish up development on Hush.

Hush is an action adventure game focused on story and characters. We designed the game play in a way players, both casual and hardcore, could easily relate to. The levels are designed to highlight combat, puzzle solving and exploration.

The player will face several obstacles that will try to prevent the progression through the level. This obstacles will take the form of monsters, puzzles and hazard-avoidance. Each monster will have different attacks and movement, they will behave according to their profile and the chapter they belong to. Each chapter will end with a confrontation against a final boss that will represent the fear in which the chapter is based on.

The combat system is fast, broad and intuitive, the puzzles are challenging and there are several places to explore… you'll spend plenty of time unveiling secrets.

Ashlyn is initially armed with her best friend GoGo. She uses it to smack enemies around. During her quest, she will find other toys that will help her overcome the enemies standing in her way.

The combat style will range from straight Hack and Slash to more strategic combat approaches. Some weapons work at close range while others enable Ashlyn to safely attack from a distance. Each one is unique in fighting style and properties. You will also have plenty of options to improve them with accumulated experience. Players will be demanded to use cunning and strategy to decide on the best approach for each confrontation.

Sometimes the enemies are just too overwhelming to defeat with simple attacks! You will be forced to develop a strategy compromising the use of stealth, your surroundings or even special items. The weapons are divided in melee and ranged and their efficiency in high damage with low attack speed and low damage with fast attack speed. This gives the player versatility in terms of game play and the ability to play according to which style he likes more.

Hush portraits a compelling story with a thick plot. The game will be divided in chapters and each will explore the "Fear of the Dark", "Fear of Thunder" and "Fear of Ghosts".

In the "Fear of the Dark" chapter you will have to navigate through the dark under levels of the orphanage while avoiding the blind GARMA. You'll also have to find out the best way to navigate these dark corridors while staying in the best lit areas. The climax will top on the confrontation with the mysterious master of shadows LUCIFER, the Cat.

The "Fear of Thunder" will pitch you against the energetic automatons of the Power House. These are creatures that harvest energy and are highly volatile in nature. Be extra careful with the ongoing storm! This chapter tells the story of Nikolai, the GROUNDSKEEPER of the orphanage that had the ambition to create life. Nikolai build robots from all types of junk that he found in the orphanage and manage to give them life.  Over the chapter Ashlyn will try to find the reason behind the strange things happening in the level, the robots that have life and why the sound of the thunders are so loud.

"Fear of Ghosts" will feature the kid turned evil mastermind "Pignose Timmy" and his ghostly minions. Through the progression of the chapter you will unveil the true secret of the orphanage and the reasons behind all the evil. Beware of the SISTER.

On HUSH the sound will play a major role to make fears come alive. You'll hear indistinguishable whispers coming all around you, or sudden crumbling thunders out of the silence.

As a player you must be ready to face everything that comes in your way, even if you can't see it. Your courage status throughout the game will also influence the sound environment. The whole soundscape is responsive to your behavior. In reality, when you are afraid in the dark you will start hearing more and more, creating a hyper-real sound environment where you can’t tell what is real or imagination. HUSH behaves the same way. For sound to react to your actions in the game we are implementing a procedural audio solution.

On the soundtrack you can expect some spooky themes. We will create suspense and raise your heartbeat. Hellish strings, bone-like marimbas and weeping synthesizers will play catchy melodies that will follow you along your path.
