'Hellraid' (ALL) Not Up to Snuff, Back To The Drawing Board

by Rainier on May 21, 2015 @ 9:39 a.m. PDT

Hellraid is a first-person co-op slasher that offers two games in one: a single-player, story-driven campaign of hack & slash action; and unique, co-operative multiplayer that pits four players against the denizens of hell.

The armies of Hell brought pain and destruction to the realm of man, and only a select few have the fighting skills necessary to confront the devilish monstrosities. Combining elements of hack & slash RPGs, first-person shooters and online multiplayer games, Hellraid features an advanced, immersive combat system with melee, ranged and magical weapons. The engaging Game Master system makes each game a different experience, placing loot and enemies while generating random online challenges.

With exploration, looting, questing, weapon crafting, boss fights, armor customization, character development, leaderboards, magic and so much more, Hellraid is set to drag you straight to hell.

Hellraid, which in restrospect was fittingly named Project Hell at first, has a bne of a storied development cycle. Announced in 2013 (although Project Hell had been floating around since 2012), delayed until 2014, then pushed back to 2015, getting an Engine upgrade, it turns out that Techland is now sending it back to the drawing board to re-invent the title, while it focusses on more Dying Light content.

In April, Techland announced that Hellraid would come to next-gen platforms and was now undergoing a transition to Chrome Engine 6, the latest version of Techland’s technology designed to take full advantage of the new hardware generation. In August, the effect of this profound change was presented to invited journalists at gamescom in Cologne, Germany. Now everyone will be able to see how these months of hard work have changed Hellraid.

For the first time ever, Hellraid will be shown publicly after its transition to Chrome Engine 6 (Techland’s proprietary next-gen engine that also fuels Dying Light), tomorrow, September 16th, at 10:00 AM PDT streamed live on Twitch.

Dear Hellraid fans,

We would like to officially announce that our dark fantasy FPP game Hellraid will not be released this year as previously planned, and the development of the game has been put on hold.

In the recent months we conducted an internal analysis and came to the conclusion that Hellraid, in its current shape and form, is not meeting our own expectations for this project. Therefore, we decided the best course of action would be to send it back to the drawing board and invent our dark fantasy title anew.

In the meantime, we will consolidate our development resources and focus on further expansion of our Dying Light franchise.

We wish to thank all our fans for your support – you’re the best!
