by Rainier on July 6, 2015 @ 6:46 a.m. PDT

Star Citizen is an epic experience where players can fly highly detailed space ships, explore life-sized planets, battle on foot through massive space stations, and discover adventure in an ever-expanding and changing galaxy of unmatched scale.

Star Citizen will not require a subscription not be free-to-play, it will will be available for a one-time purchase. And while players will be able to play in the Star Citizen universe for free, there will also be virtual items available for purchase with in-game credits so players can customize their ships and other items.

Earlier today word got around that Executive Producer Alex Mayberry had left Cloud Imperium Games and we reached out to CIG's PR department for clarification.

Alex left CIG last month. It was for personal/family matters. Erin Roberts has taken on the role of Global Head of Production

Original announcement:

Cloud Imperium Games announced the opening of its newest development office in Frankfurt, Germany. Managed by CIG’s Foundry 42 Ltd. in Manchester, the Frankfurt office is comprised of some of the top engineers, artists and designers in Europe, many of whom had responsibility in creating the engine technology, CryEngine, which is the foundational framework for Star Citizen.

“These are some of the top game developers in this part of the world,” said CIG’s co-founder and creative director, Chris Roberts. “We are extremely pleased to have them on our team and working with CIG in all aspects of creating Star Citizen. Their experience in working on CryEngine will pay huge dividends for us in the very near future. Some of their contributions are already showing up in in our single player game, Squadron 42, and our first person shooter elements.”

The new Foundry 42 office sits on the western side of Frankfurt in a new business complex close to the city’s convention center and shopping district. There currently are 21 people on the team, but that number is expected to increase to 50 by the end of the year. Check Cloud Imperium’s job listings, including those currently open in Frankfurt.

“This is a dream come true for our entire team,” said Brian Chambers, development director at the Foundry 42 German office. “It’s exciting to be working on an ambitious project like Star Citizen. Our team is small now but we will be growing quickly and recruiting from all over Europe to come work on the game. We have some very interesting ideas about future technology that I think our fans will like and we look forward to talking about those very soon.”
