'Call Of Duty: Black Ops III' (ALL) PS4 Multiplayer Beta Extended

by Rainier on Aug. 24, 2015 @ 11:49 a.m. PDT

Call of Duty: Black Ops III is a dark, gritty future where a new breed of Black Ops soldier emerges and the lines are blurred between our own humanity and the cutting-edge military robotics that define the future of combat.

The Black Ops series is the most played in Call of Duty history with nearly 100 million registered players having played Call of Duty: Black Ops and Call of Duty: Black Ops II combined.  For development studio Treyarch, this marks the first time with three-years for development, which has been fully leveraged to bring the Black Ops series to next gen with Call of Duty: Black Ops III.

Call of Duty: Black Ops III delivers a campaign that can be played as a full single player game or co-op online with up to four players, the deepest, most rewarding multiplayer ever offered in Call of Duty, and, a mind blowing Call of Duty Zombies experience that, for the first time, features its own XP progression system.

Treyarch has announced that they've extended the Call of Duty: Black Ops III PS4 beta for another day, so fans have until today to get in and check it out.

Today, we’re increasing the level cap to Colonel (Level 40) – now, it’s time to see what you've got, so bring it!

But why stop with just a level cap? How about a new Specialist too? Today, you’ll have the opportunity to play as Spectre – here’s what you need to know:

Next to nothing is known about the presumed wet-works Specialist, Spectre. The designation itself is a codename agreed upon by the various agencies that have pooled their intelligence on unsolved assassinations, inferring his or her existence based on either evidence found at the scene or from fragmentary reports given by shaken bystanders.  Despite heavy redaction, all accounts suggest an individual capable of extraordinary stealth, able to evade or neutralize the most sophisticated of manned or automated security set-ups.  In every case, Spectre’s victims have been ‘handled’ with surgically precise mid-line wounds with rarely any signs of struggle.

Last but not least, you’ll have a chance to play a brand new mode that we’re calling Safeguard. This is an “attack and defend” mode that will test a team’s ability to coordinate their action. The attacking team must escort a robot drone into the enemy team’s base, but it only moves when a player is standing next to it. The defending team can disable the robot by inflicting enough damage, causing it to shut down and reboot before it can be moved again. Teams will alternate between attack and defense roles, each getting one turn in each role . If one team wins both rounds, they win the match. If both teams win a round, it goes into overtime, which follows a similar format to Capture the Flag overtime – if the attacking team escorts the robot into the enemy base in the first round, the opposing team has to beat their time to get the robot into the enemy base. It’s pure, delicious chaos! Organized teamwork is the name of the game here, folks.

PS4 system owners worldwide who obtained a beta access code for the Call of Duty: Black Ops III multiplayer beta will experience Treyarch's new multiplayer gameplay first hand. New maps, modes, specialists, weapon customizations and more, including gameplay progression and the all-new momentum-based, chained movement system will be available for play through Sunday, Aug. 23, with other platforms to follow. Players are encouraged to submit their Beta feedback, directly to the studio team. As the Beta continues, the Treyarch blog will provide updates as events unfold.

The Call of Duty: Black Ops III beta represents a fraction of the full version of the game. Fans playing in the Beta can expect to play through three maps that will accommodate various play styles and enjoy high-octane combat that takes advantage of the new momentum-based, chained-movement system, advanced weaponry, new gear and much more. At least seven game modes will be unveiled throughout the Beta, including fan favorites and quite possibly a few surprises along the way. Plus, Beta participants will be able to play as two all-new Specialists in addition to the six previously revealed. The Beta also includes weapon customization featuring both Create-a-Class and Weapon Paint Shop functionality (Weapon Paint Shop not available on PC version of Beta) as well as gameplay progression covering weapons, scorestreaks and equipment (all progression will reset at the end of the Beta).

Treyarch confirmed the some new additions the Black Ops III Beta currently available on PlayStation 4. For starters, they are increasing the level cap to Major (Level 34) - which will unlock new weapons, equipment, perks and scorestreaks.

Also, the team at Treyarch is introducing a new map into the rotation with Stronghold - a high-tech Swiss chateau in the frozen Alps, featuring an asymmetrical design with a lethal mix of exposed sightlines and tight, close quarters.

In addition to new level increase and new map, a new specialist will be available for players that reach Level 34 - Reaper.

  • Real Name: Experimental War Robot (EWR)
  • Bio: Started as an expensive military R&D project to supplement Special Operations soldiers in the field, the EWR was a cutting-edge prototype combat robot, the most advanced in the world at the time. Budget overruns and embarrassing political incidents left the project all but a resource for scrap metal, except for the one prototype that remained.
  • Weapon: Scythe - Robotic arm that transforms into a high power Mini-Gun.
  • Ability: Psychosis - Infiltrate enemy DNI systems to simulate three decoy clones.

Finally, the team at Treyarch is introducing the Uplink game mode to the multiplayer playlist. In Uplink, players face off in an effort to take control of a downed satellite and into the enemy's goal.

The Call of Duty: Black Ops III campaign deploys players into a future world, where bio-technology coupled with cybernetic enhancements has given rise to a new breed of Black Ops soldier.  Through Direct Neural Interface (DNI) technology, players are now connected to the intelligence grid and their fellow operatives during battle.  In a world more divided than ever, this elite squad consists of men and women who have enhanced their combat capabilities to fight faster, stronger, and smarter.

The most engaging and rewarding multiplayer offering to date debuts a new momentum-based, chained-movement system that allows players to move fluidly through custom-built environments with finesse, all while maintaining complete control over their weapon at all times.Treyarch also introduces its new Specialist system, which lets players choose and rank up nine elite Black Ops soldiers, each with their own look, personality, voice and battle-hardened weapons and abilities, fundamentally changing the way players engage in combat.  Multiplayer is rounded out with an all-new weapon customization system that give players more powerful tools than ever to build and personalize that perfect weapon.
