'Avorion' Kickstarter Adds New Demo Update - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on April 28, 2016 @ 8:44 a.m. PDT

Avorion takes the sandbox aspects from the X games and Freelancer, throws in co-op multiplayer and lets you build your own ships.

Avorion is a procedurally generated sci-fi sandbox where players start out at the edge of the galaxy and must find their way to its core.

Players build their own ships, which they will use to explore the galaxy, trade and fight. Space ships are mainly of large scale, with crews, turrets and energy systems that you will have to manage. The galaxy gets more hostile, but also more rewarding the closer players get to its core. You're free to play however you want, as a mercenary, freighter captain, admiral, scavenger or pirate, it's all up to you.

Two weeks into the Kickstarter, looking for $17,115, Boxelware released a new demo update for its space sandbox game Avorion. The demo improves the gameplay by speeding up ships, mining, increasing weapon damage and adding lasers as a third equippable weapon class.

"We watched youtubers and playtesters play the game and realized that the gameplay was simply too slow. We doubled weapon damage and increased ship speeds by 50% and now those lengths in the game are gone" said Konstantin Kronfeldner, inventor and designer of Avorion.

In order to demonstrate what Avorion is capable of, the new update introduces the Super Action Mode. Players start with a fully equipped space ship with 4 laser turrets and tons of resources to repair or expand their ship. They must fight off never-ending waves of enemies, with only short breaks between the waves where repairs can be made. Like everything else in the game, this game mode can be played in co-op multiplayer or singleplayer.
