'Xmodule' Announced, Seeks Crowd Funding - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on April 28, 2016 @ 9:30 a.m. PDT

Xmodule is a car racing game that allows you to fully customize your car and 3D print it.

The idea behind Xmodule is to give the gamer the feeling to be the creator of his own car, as the customization possibilities are thousands.

You won't create your car only onscreen but also physically. Indeed, as you progress through the game, you unlock more and more car parts and everytime a new part is available, you can also have access to the 3D file. In this way, you will hold in your hands the model you have created! If you don't have a 3D printer, we have a partnership with 3DHubs so that players will have the option of sending parts to their local 3D printing service for fabrication at a competitive price.

You’ll start the game choosing between different car modules (car settings). The engine position, dimension and weight all differ.

You won’t be able to change your module during the race and there aren’t any new cars to unlock. You have to build and improve your chosen module in order to win. During the race there are no power ups or weapons, so the only way to be succesful is to build a great car and to drive it as fast as you can. We want you to learn how to drift in the corners, as that's the only way to recharge the boost.

G21 Studio has launched a kickstarter campaign, looking for $40,677, to finish development of Xmodule. Interested fans can also support the game on Steam Greenlight.

Huge wheels and futuristic car shapes give Xmodule a unique style full of colours. Everything is exaggerated, the wheels protrude outside the chassis to generate more grip. As a sci-fi game the environment is full of steel and futuristic structures. The cars have been created taking inspiration from the RC world trying to apply the same proportions in 1:1 cars. The proportions are realistic but we decided to use a cartoon style with saturated colours and great contrast to emphasise the suggestion of something unreal and to have the chance to experiment more with the graphics.

The game is focused on speed and creativity, we don't want you to just pick up one car and run, we want you to express yourself combining the car parts that you like the most. The concept car you create will become your personal project. In the garage you have the chance to customize everything, from the tires and wheels to the engine parts. The more races you win, the more car parts you will have available. Also, the components affect your performance so you have to choose them based on the kind of track you are going to do.

The 3D printing aspect is what makes this game unique. Using primarily 3D softwares, hundreds of items have been designed both as virtual items and as physical STLs. The physical models are simply encrypted so that they can be unlocked with the in-game achievements.

3D Hubs an online 3D printing service is our official partner, so if you don’t have a 3D printer you can print the cars and characters through their network. Every time you unlock a new component you simply upload the STL file you get on our website's API system and you'll be redirected to 3D Hubs to find a local service provider to order your print.

We are working hard on prototyping all the components and making them easy to assemble just by specific joints between each part, without using any glue. The materials used so far are ABS and PLA. Indeed, if you have a 3D printer, things are even easier and cheaper for you. We have estimated that, with a 2 kgs filament costing around 20 euros, you'll be able to 3D print 5-6 full cars!
