'Battlecursed' Delayed Until 2017 - Screens

by Rainier on May 17, 2016 @ 10:18 a.m. PDT

Battlecursed is a rogue-like action RPG in which a single-player directs a four-hero party in real-time, first-person battles.

During enemy encounters, players cycle to a party member, select a skill and aim at a target to initiate an attack. Battles require sharp management of the full party, being mindful of cooldown times and enemy locations.

Character placement will also be essential for a party to conquer foes. For example, the Grave Knight gained his immense strength by striking a deal with dark forces, making him a great frontline fighter, while the Necromancer would do well at the back of the party, protected from enemy attacks as she sacrifices her own blood to cast spells. The newest hero, the Bard, can support the rest of the party with songs to boost attack power and speed.

In Battlecursed, the false king Xelo Van suffered defeat 1,000 years ago in a cataclysmic battle that scarred the land and destroyed the kingdom. Now, an unknown force has guided his reawakening as the undead Lich Lord. Gathering old allies and new armies to his side, Xelo Van amasses his strength so that he may seek to continue his millennia-old conquest of Pylandria.

Originally scheduled for Q4 2016, Codex Worlds, led by former Ubisoft executive producer Dexter Chow, has pushed back the release until Q1 2017.

Players are contracted through the Church of Divine Light, bringing together a party of adventurers to act as mankind’s last defense against Xelo Van and his army of monstrous dead. Delving through multiple adventures in the Ancient Caves, Codex World’s storytelling will provide clues, secrets, lore and history in the world of Pylandria.

Parties will face procedurally-generated dungeons, resulting in a different experience each playthrough. As foes are slain and loot discovered, the party will gradually progress through four distinct stages: ancient caves riddled with mud and pools of lava; shallow cemeteries and undead bogs; wealth-filled dwarven ruins; and finally, the mystical lair of the undead lord himself.

Xelo Van and his armies are overwhelming, but players can experience their own unique adventure to free the world from the Lich Lord’s terror.
