'Destiny' (ALL) Rise of Iron Expansion Announced, Dated - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on June 9, 2016 @ 12:47 p.m. PDT

Destiny offers unprecedented variety of FPS gameplay, including story, cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes combined with public and social activities.

Set in the distant future, Destiny casts players as Guardians of the last city on Earth, who traverse the ruins of our solar system from the red dunes of Mars to the jungles of Venus. Players must battle enemies and reclaim what was lost during the collapse of mankind. Destiny's saga unfolds through grand tales and sweeping adventures by immersing gamers in a world with cooperative, competitive, public, and social activities.

Everything changed with the arrival of the Traveler. Long ago, it breathed new life into our system. Rain washed over Mars. Fresh air cleansed the skies over Venus. Soon after, humanity raced into the black, and colonized these newly remade worlds. It was a time of miracles – a great Golden Age.

It did not last. The Traveler had an ancient enemy. A powerful darkness that found us here on Earth, and nearly destroyed us. No one knows exactly what happened in those final moments, but we know this: we survived, and we owe our lives to the Traveler.

Destiny: Rise of Iron draws players back to where their journey was born and entices them to join alongside one of Destiny's greatest heroes to battle an ancient enemy from the past.

Guardians must rise to the challenge to take their place as the next generation of Iron Lords. Along the way they will join forces with a legend from humanity's Golden Age to defeat a plague of unstoppable evil once and for all. The game features a collection of fresh content including an all-new setting on Earth called The Plaguelands, a brand-new six-player Raid, Felwinter Peak, a new social space that looks out onto The Plaguelands, new cooperative three-player Strike, more quests, weapons, gear, competitive multiplayer mode and maps, a Light level increase, a new mutated enemy faction of the Fallen, and more.

All Rise of Iron players will be able to acquire the Gjallarhorn, a fan favorite weapon making its return. Those players who preorder beginning June 9th will receive the limited-edition, black and silver Iron Gjallarhorn.

"Rise of Iron is an exciting addition to the Destiny universe," said Pete Parsons, CEO of Bungie. "We are continually blown away and inspired by the growing Destiny community's energy and enthusiasm."

"We have been working hard with our partners at Bungie and are planning great, new content for Destiny's 30 million registered players. Rise of Iron is the first step in fulfilling that promise," said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision. "There's a ton of content packed in Rise of Iron, including a new location, a new Raid and a new Strike, combined with more quests, weapons, gear, a competitive multiplayer mode and more that we think players are going to love."

Rise of Iron launches on September 20, 2016 and will be available for the PS4 and Xbox One (PlayStation Plus, Xbox Live Gold, needed for some features), and requires the Destiny game and The Taken King (includes Expansions I & II), sold separately.

In our darkest days, Humans, Exos, and Awoken found the Traveler where it made its last stand, low above Earth, silent and immobile. We built the City – our last – within its protective veil, fighting countless wars to keep its peace. From that dark age, Guardians were born.

Now, a new era has begun, and the only hope for our future lies in unlocking the greatest mysteries of our past. You are a Guardian of the last safe city on Earth, able to wield some of the Traveler's incredible power. You are taking this mantle just as a new day dawns. Titans, Hunters, and Warlocks have finally returned to our long-lost worlds, only to find out we are not alone.

Defend the last safe City on Earth. Defeat our enemies. Explore the ancient ruins of our solar system. Discover all that we have lost.

Become legend.
