'Wild West Online' Will Remain In Early Access Until 2018

by Rainier on Dec. 5, 2017 @ 2:18 p.m. PST

Wild West Online is an open-world action-based, online multiplayer game in which players are free to explore and interact within a thrilling Wild West setting.

In Wild West Online your actions decide if you’ll be a hero, a villain or something else entirely in this R-Rated adult’s playground, where you choose if you want to follow the law of the land or throw the good book out the window. Dig deeper and you might start to suspect there’s more going on here than just lawmakers and lawbreakers – underneath the surface this west is even wilder than meets the eye.

The game features a bevy of content, including world exploration, resource gathering, PvP combat, PvE game missions, treasure hunts and much more.

Howdy to all the Pioneers, Trailblazers, Gunslingers and Mavericks out there. It's been an exciting couple of weeks since we launched Wild West Online into Early Access Alpha! As we're moving forward with development we're going to start giving you bi-weekly updates on what is going on with the game and what to expect in the future!

We will post our first Dev Blog update tomorrow - Tuesday, December 5th. We plan to post a new update every other week that is covering what will be included in the patch and what is happening with the game.

For now we want to address the one question that everyone has been asking - When do you plan to release the game? While we originally entertained the idea of releasing this year in December... the last few weeks have showed us that we clearly need to spend more time in Early Access Alpha before we'll be ready to release the game to a larger audience. In short, no, Wild West Online will not officially release in December this year.

We still feel pretty confident that we'll be able to finish most of the tasks we had planned for the game's release this year but we also want to include a few things that you, the players, have identified as important you you. Things like mounted combat on horseback, hunting wild animals as well as more structured PVP events and global events happening in the world that you can participate in. All of these things need to be implemented before we can call the game ready for release. With your help we've also identified a number of gameplay issues that need to be resolved to make it the most fun for everyone and this will require us to redesign certain systems from scratch.

Right now we're working on an interactive Roadmap in Trello so that you, our fans, will have an up to date look at what we're working on right now!

Key Features:

  • Become an Outlaw, Deputy or Anyone You Want – In Wild West Online players are free to choose their own path. How they play the game and how they interact with other players is up to them. Based on their actions they will either become a lawman or an outlaw. If a player becomes too “lawless” a bounty will be placed on their head and it will be open season. Don’t want to be either? Players can pick a different path such as farming the land, becoming a miner or exploring the world.
  • An Expansive Western World – Wild West Online will launch with a large map featuring wilderness, settler encampments, lone farms, small settlements, large towns, train stations, gang hideouts, landmarks – and bizarre uncharted places of an "unknown nature" that curious explorers will be drawn to seek out.
  • Intense PvP Combat – Experience the dangers of the West with intense PvP combat that will make Tombstone look tame. Players are much safer in towns since attacking other players is punishable there, but in a wild there are no laws. When a player dies, they only lose “quest items” - mined gold, recovered artifacts and other items required for some quests. All other items remain with the player.
  • PvE Missions and Activities – Take on bounties, farm, mine, sell goods, gather resources and more, in Wild West Online there is no shortage of activities to do.
  • Form a Posse – Players can group with up-to eight friends to form a posse. It’s then up to them if they want to gain a reputation as bandits or tame the West as deputies.
  • Light Crafting – Wild West Online features some light crafting where players will need to learn recipes and forage for supplies or convert looted items into materials to craft necessities.

Wild West Online full release is planned for 2018.
