'Lightspeed Frontier' Available On Steam Early Access

by Rainier on March 7, 2017 @ 2:45 p.m. PST

Lightspeed Frontier is an open world sandbox spaceship building and exploration game.

Lightspeed Frontier is a humorous, space-based game where players build ships from block modules before partaking in open-ended missions that have a lasting effect on the surrounding environment as well as the galactic stock market.

Lightspeed Frontier lets you build a spaceship by selecting the parts you need (armor, mini-guns, thrusters, shield, etc.), and then stick them together like you're putting together a LEGO set. After completing your ship you can explore a sandbox galaxy and complete missions to reap the riches of the galaxy and upgrade your ship. While flying through the galaxy you'll engage in riveting battle with crime lords and space pirates to protect your loot.

As captain, players will embark on an adventure to discover the mysteries of the universe as they complete missions to reap the riches of the galaxy. During exploration, captains will decide whether to practice diplomacy or engage in riveting battle with crime lords and space pirates. As a savvy businessperson, players will compete against greedy corporations that are monopolizing business to become the most successful captain in the galaxy.

Lightspeed Frontier launches into Early Access via Steam (PC) today for $14.99, and has hours of single-player missions, while the sandbox nature allows for unlimited hours of exploration and play. Multiplayer is in the works and will officially launch when Lightspeed Frontier departs Early Access.

Lightspeed Frontier is a combination of sandbox and story, where people can choose their own path,” said Philip Devine, Producer at Riveted Games. “During play gamers will run into clues about quests, but with the open world gameplay, players can choose to partake in these adventures or free roam the galaxy fighting other ships and stealing their parts. No play session will be the same and it’s up to each player’s imagination to determine their own outcome.”

For those interested in meeting with the development team, Lightspeed Frontier is playable this weekend at PAX East in booth 10052.

Key Features:

  • Block-Based Ship Building – Create the ultimate warship by scavenging and purchasing modular upgrades with in-game currencies. Everything from the ship’s engines, cannons, lasers, scanners, software and more can be upgraded. All building is done in real time, so players can scavenge modules from enemy ships without stopping their expeditions!
  • Quests – Quests are one of the most unique features in Lightspeed Frontier, as they aren’t issued through your typical ubiquitous “mission posting.” Players will need to be aware of the various breaking headlines, advertisements and direct messages from people they encounter through their travels to find quests.
  • An Immersive World – While exploring the universe, players will encounter memorable alien creatures, discover the greed of multitrillion-dollar corporations, scavenge for new ship parts, avoid the dangers of asteroid belts, locate new space stations and more.
  • Ship Classes – Players will start with a tiny fighter-class ship with less than 20 modules/100 tons, but as they progress through the open world they will eventually reach the pinnacle of modular ship development by acquiring 8000+ tons of modules for the Dreadnaught class!
  • Mining and Crafting – Scanners, lasers and just the right amount of thrust can leave players with a cargo bay full of exotic and rare materials that can be sold on the market or used to craft more powerful modules.
  • Space Capitalism – Space is a massive opportunity for investment and profit, which brings greedy interstellar corporations to the frontier's outposts and space stations. Use your sharp wit and network of allies to outsmart these corporations, earn a profit and become the most successful captain the galaxy has ever seen
