'Quake Champions' Introduces Clutch Champion - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on April 12, 2017 @ 12:24 p.m. PDT

Quake Champions is a competitive, arena-style first-person shooter for the PC that returns fans to the frenetic, skill-based competition that made Quake an industry legend and solidified it as one of the first major eSports games.

Quake Champions will deliver the mythos of the first Quake with the groundbreaking multiplayer mayhem of Quake III Arena. The game will also introduce a major new feature to the franchise – Champions – a roster of fierce warriors, each with unique attributes and abilities, which enable players to compete in their own distinctive style.

Clutch spent most of its existence underground crushing rock and protecting his human overlords from falling rock as a mindless, nearly indestructible mining robot. After stumbling upon unexplored ruins with strange markings, it gained the power to escape and punish its masters -- now it’s a woke AF killing machine.

Rumbling through the Arenas, Clutch spreads the pain amongst foes, using its Barrier Active Ability to protect itself and allies in team modes and its Still Defense Passive to gain an advantage over other Champions.

Clutch was built to deflect the toughest mining conditions and smash boulders. The Awakened Automaton is certainly capable of deflecting your rockets and smashing your dreams of becoming Champion.

CHAMPION PROFILE: Clutch – Awakened Automaton

Starting Statistics:

  • Starting Health: 150
  • Starting Armor: 50
  • Speed: 320-360-400

Active Ability – Barrier: Whether you’re in team games and want to protect allies, or just need a quick save in Deathmatch, throw down Clutch’s  Barrier Active Ability to block incoming attacks for a limited time. This large force-shield once protected organics and drills in the mines, but in the Arena, it serves as a solid defense against enemy Champions.

Passive Ability – Still Defense: Got some aggressive, rocket-happy bunny-hopper coming at you head-on? With Clutch’s Still Defense Passive Ability, stand strong and gain 20% damage reduction against incoming attacks while walking or standing still. In addition, running forward without changing direction will increase your speed. Handy in the mines, devastating in the Arenas.

Quake Champions continues id Software’s tradition of pushing the boundaries of modern technology and will deliver stunning graphics running at 120hz with unlocked frame rates. The game will make it easy for new players to learn while also delivering the challenge and competition 20-year Quake veterans expect.

Quake Champions is designed and built for eSports, integrating competitive features for professional and amateur levels of play. The game will be supported at tournaments and in leagues around the globe, including QuakeCon, the annual event that attracts tens of thousands of id Software fans and competitors to Dallas.
