The Town of Light is a first-person psychological horror adventure set in a former psychiatric hospital based on real events and places.

The Town of Light is a first-person, psychological story-driven adventure game set in the Volterra Psychiatric Asylum – a former mental treatment facility based in Tuscany, Italy. The asylum was shut down in the late 1970s due to an Italian law that instructed all asylums to close completely and give back patients their civil rights.

You are a 16 years old schizophrenic girl. Your mind is a mess. You are there, alone with few memories, in the darkness, with your fears and loneliness. You don't know where you are, why you are there, who you are… You ask yourself “I'm sick, imprisoned, or…?” You can only feel that you are in one of the creepiest places in the world: the place of no return.

Renèe’s voice guides you in the game and through her eyes the player will live her story, her fears and her personal drama to never forget. The player will try to recreate her personality, freely exploring the environment, finding documents, reliving her hallucinations. The player can explore thousands of square meters inside the pavilions and dozens of hectares outside, faithfully recreated in 3D to shake the conscience and to immerse the player in an environment that led him to reflect on his own mental sanity. Oculus Rift adds a new dimension to the fear!

Wired Productions and developer LKA.it have released a complimentary PS4/Xbox One Sgame demo for their first-person psychological adventure game, The Town of Light.

Studio Head and Founder of LKA.it, Luca Dalco, said: “We’ve had an overwhelming response from players who’ve followed Renée’s journey and how it made them compassionate to the psychological and physical effects people experienced whilst at the asylum prior to its closure. To reflect this, we wanted to provide more gamers the opportunity to play a portion of the game – for free – to understand more about mental health.”

“Mental health is a current issue that should be raised to understand further, and we’re pleased to do our part by offering a teaser of The Town of Light to raise awareness of the struggles of real people,” said Leo Zullo, Managing Director of Wired Productions. “We hope gamers take the opportunity to get their hands on the demo, and then eagerly look to finish the journey that they started, in the full game.”

“I find myself without my skin and every breath of wind is excruciatingly painful.”

“The shadow of the past are waiting for you inside these walls, drenched with fear, distress and tears. The light that blind the mind dissolves the line between reason and madness. Are you going to find the switch of the darkness?”

Key Features:

  • Based on true story and true place: one of the biggest asylum in Europe, a place of no return.
  • No jump-scares, no monsters, no open doors with keys to find, no psychiatric institutions meant such as luna park.
