'PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' (ALL) Sells Ten Million Early Access Copies

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds expands the core Battle Royale experience into a highly competitive player vs. player (PvP) game in a vivid open world.

Welcome to the ultimate battle for life and death

In development for PC and Xbox One, using Unreal Engine 4, the standalone game will expand the core Battle Royale experience enjoyed by millions of players into a highly competitive player vs. player (PvP) game in a dynamic open world. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will put up to 64 players on a remote island for a winner-takes-all showdown where strategic gameplay is as important as shooting skills. Players will enter a last-man-standing battle where they try to locate weapons, vehicles and supplies in a graphically and tactically rich battleground that eventually forces players into a shrinking safe area as they engage in a tense and spectacular fight to the death.

As part of the collaborative development process, PlayerUnknown has relocated to Bluehole’s Korean HQ from his native Ireland to serve as the creative director on the project at Bluehole while maintaining close contact with the grassroots community that has supported his projects.

When the match starts, players have no items or weapons. To progress, they can try to commandeer a vehicle to discover a high-value location, search for weapons or employ other diversified tactics with a goal of being the last man standing. All weapons can be upgraded with attachments such as sights and suppressors and both road and off-road vehicles will be available to players.

Kill or be killed in a fight to be the last man standing.

Bluehole announced today that that as of September 1, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) has sold over 10 million units since its Steam Early Access launch on March 23, 2017.

PUBG also set a new mark for peak concurrent users (e.g. CCU) with over 970,000, highlighted by the strong reception at the PUBG Invitational at gamescom 2017. During the four day PUBG Invitational tournament event:

  • 92 players from 19 different countries globally competed in four different PUBG game modes (solo, duo, duo-fpp, squad)
  • PUBG Invitational was officially broadcast across nine streaming platforms including Mixer, Twitch, Youtube, Facebook, PandaTV, AfreecaTV, Kakao TV, Naver and Openrec
  • Peak online viewership on Twitch official channels was 536,000 on first day (solo mode)
  • Peak online viewership on PandaTV official channels was 5.6 million on first day (solo mode)
The charity donation pledge is currently being finalized with an announcement coming soon.

“It is amazing and gratifying to see the love and support the passionate fans have shown to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds,” stated Chang Han Kim, Vice President and Executive Producer for Bluehole. “Watching the thrilling moments during the PUBG Invitational with the great feedback from viewers is a realization of the continuing popularity of PUBG and our team is working diligently to bring a solid gameplay experience for full launch on the PC and Xbox One Game Preview versions later this year.”
