'Darkest Dungeon' (ALL) Gets Switch/PS4 Retail Edition

by Rainier on Jan. 24, 2018 @ 4:44 p.m. PST

Darkest Dungeon is a challenging gothic roguelike RPG about the psychological stresses of adventuring.

You will lead a band of heroes on a perilous side-scrolling descent, dealing with a prodigious number of threats to their bodily health, and worse, a relentless assault on their mental fortitude! Five hundred feet below the earth you will not only fight unimaginable foes, but famine, disease, and the stress of the ever-encroaching dark. Darkest Dungeon focuses on the humanity and psychological vulnerability of the heroes and asks: What emotional toll does a life of adventure take?

Recruit, train, and lead a team of flawed heroes through twisted forests, forgotten warrens, ruined crypts, and beyond. You’ll battle not only unimaginable foes, but stress, famine, disease, and the ever-encroaching dark. Uncover strange mysteries, and pit the heroes against an array of fearsome monsters with an innovative strategic turn-based combat system. You will have to tend to characters’ spirits as much as you do to their Hit Points. But in these grim situations, you'll find opportunities for true heroism!

Darkest Dungeon is not a game where every hero wins the day with shiny armor and a smile. It is a game about hard trade-offs, nearly certain demise, and heroic reversals.

Do you have what it takes to survive in the forgotten corners of the Darkest Dungeon?

Merge Games has partnered with Red Hook Studios to bring its gothic RPG, Darkest Dungeon: Ancestral Edition, to PS4 and Nintendo Switch retail.

Merge Games’ Managing Director, Luke Keighran, remarked, “We are over the moon to be working with Red Hook Studios. Darkest Dungeon is a fantastic brand and working with the Red Hook team has been a joy. We believe Darkest Dungeon: Ancestral Edition will be warmly welcomed by retailers and fans alike.”

Darkest Dungeon: Ancestral Edition, due for release in March 2018, will feature the original Darkest Dungeon game and include the two expansions, The Crimson Court and The Shieldbreaker.

Red Hook Studios’ Co-President, Tyler Sigman, added, “Many fans have been clamouring for a physical edition of the game, and Merge Games was the right partner to help us get this done! We're thrilled for people to have the option to buy a retail box...and we're going to be keeping a few copies in our personal libraries, too!”

Darkest Dungeon: Ancestral Edition will carry a SRP of $39.99/€39.99/£34.99 on Nintendo Switch and $29.99/€29.99/£24.99 on PS4.
