'The Conjuring House' Now Called 'The Dark Occult' and Adds New Game Mode

by Rainier on Nov. 6, 2018 @ 1:01 p.m. PST

With twisted horrors that creep every corner of the manor, The Dark Occult is a psychologically-driven horror game that puts players in a constant state of anxiety that crescendos into raw panic and terror.

Frayed white curtains flutter in an unwelcome breeze as rain whips against the side of the manor. The air is thick, as nothing living had passed through it in quite some time. Demented creatures twisted by the demonic entities that possess the house stalk their prey, filled with rage and murderous intent. Wide-eyed porcelain dolls peer around darkened doorways, soulless and ravenous. And everywhere, she glides like a tattered shadow, seeking the living as her mere demonic presence freezes your blood, slowing movements… your death is long and terrible.

Players play the part of the lone survivor of a group of investigators sent to the house to research the sickening death of its owner, whose body mysteriously decomposed in under a day. As players search through the house trying to unravel the truth of what happened, they soon realize they only have one goal to survive.

In The Dark Occult, players will enter the game exploring a seemingly abandoned house that is consumed with demonic activity. Players are sent to the Atkinson House to investigate unusual happenings surrounding the death of the owner. Upon entering, players discover that they are unable to leave and are haunted by an incessant demonic woman who stalks them with murderous intent. Artifacts of the occult must be destroyed in order to survive. Players must be constantly vigilant of every move, twist and turn, as the woman, and countless other creates, are always lurking.

The Dark Occult is filled with anxiety, panic, and real consequences that scar.

The game’s new name was chosen because it effectively conveys the game’s sinister themes and demonic denizens.

Additionally, to help players that may not have the, ahem, guts to play through the game, RYM Games has now added Dread Mode to the game. The new default game mode will give players a few more tools to help them through the haunted halls of The Dark Occult, such as higher player endurance, less difficulty, and a map that highlights important areas in the game. For players willing to take a risk and battle the demons head on, Terror Mode will fit their gameplay needs.

Key Features:

  • Psychological Horror: Creatures aren’t tied to any specific location or timing, leaving a constant sense of impending danger… and the opportunity for you to jump out of your seat at any given moment! The dark and twisted storyline of being the lone survivor of an investigation team coupled with the possessed beings that roam the halls create a never-ending feeling of tension and anxiety in players. Do you have the willpower to continue your exploration of the mansion, knowing that death could come for you at any moment?
  • Perverse Creatures of All Shapes and Sizes: The main enemy is a demonic woman, her twisted and mangled face appearing in player’s screens at any time. The fluttering tendrils of her dress will float in and out of doorways, keeping players guessing to where she is moving. In addition to the ethereal woman, possessed dolls, reanimated corpses, and occult beings are just a few of creatures that dwell in The Dark Occult. Even if you’re able to escape the walls of the manor, will what you encounter ever truly leave you?
  • Atmospheric Anxiety: The cracking of thunder, the muffled melody of music from an old gramophone, and the slamming of a nearby door by an unseen force are all strategically placed sounds that keep players on edge. Players discover that their eyes are playing tricks on them, as the hunched creature lurking at the end of a dark hall is just a side table stacked with items. Dusty-coated furniture, stripped-down walls, and stagnate air give off the impression of an abandoned manor, but the presence of flickering candles, fires roaring in fireplaces, and ever-present unearthly noises make players feel that the house not as empty as it seems.
  • An Open, Customizable Survival Experience: Explore The Dark Occult in a non-linear progression style, with multiple paths through the house. Quests can be approached in a different order from one player to another, providing a unique and different gameplay experience each time. Just remember exploring one area of the house, doesn’t mean it will be safe the next time you travel through… creatures can appear at any moment and at any location.

The Dark Occult (previously called The Conjuring House) is currently available on PC (Steam).
