'Need for Speed Payback' (ALL) Update Will Add Free Roam And More Tweaks Tomorrow

by Rainier on Feb. 12, 2018 @ 1:37 p.m. PST

Need for Speed Payback is an explosive action/adventure driving game filled with intense heist missions, high stakes car battles, epic cop pursuits and jaw dropping set pieces.

Your car is at the center of everything you do. Craft unique rides with deeper performance and visual customization than ever before. From intense missions to high stakes car battles to jaw dropping set piece moments, Need for Speed Payback delivers an edge-of-your-seat, action-driving fantasy.

It's blockbuster gameplay never before seen from the series, fueled by a gripping story of betrayal and revenge. With Need for Speed Payback, it's no longer just about being the first to cross the finish line or racing to prove to be the best, it's about building the perfect ride, getting behind the wheel and playing out an action driving fantasy.

Set in the underworld of Fortune Valley, players will drive as three distinct characters reunited by a quest for vengeance against The House, a nefarious cartel that rules the city's casinos, criminals and cops. They will take on a variety of challenges and events as Tyler, the Racer; Mac, the Showman; and Jess, the Wheelman to earn the respect of the underground. Featuring the deepest customization from the series, players can truly craft a personalized and unique ride, or spend hours finding and tuning an abandoned derelict into a supercar. They can then push their cars to the limit and raise the stakes by betting on their own performance, where they can either multiply their winnings or risk losing it all.

Earlier this year, Ghost confirmed to eager players that Free Roam, or as we call it, Alldrive, will be coming to Need for Speed Payback – but when!? The time has come, and Alldrive will be available with the latest update, starting tomorrow.

With the fan-requested update, players will be able to explore Fortune Valley alongside friends in Alldrive: Hangout. Whether cruising the streets together or just showing off your rides, Alldrive provides players an environment to socialize. In addition to the new gameplay feature, tomorrow’s update also features a handful of other items including new customization options, improvements to inventory management, the ability to take snapshots while in a takedown sequence, new camera angles and filters, and more.

What can you expect? Let's dive in.

Alldrive: Hangout

Introducing Hangout, which will allow you to explore Fortune Valley alongside your friends and other members of the Need for Speed Community.

Alldrive: Hangout will allow you to show off your cars and gives you an environment to socialize. This is the place where you'll be going when you want an impromptu car meet with your friends, the place to take cool Snapshots of your crew, and the place for you to just cruise the streets (and off-road).

Catch-up Packs

A new item is being added to the Tune-up shop, in the form of Catch-up packs. These packs allow you to speed up the progression of your cars, meaning you can take a car from stock to top tier in a much quicker time-frame.
There will be three different types of pack available, level 6, level 11 and level 16. Each one will be unlocked once you've reached a certain part in the campaign.

  • Reaching the end of chapter 3 unlocks the level 6 pack
  • Reaching the end of chapter 4 unlocks the level 11 pack
  • Reaching the end of chapter 5 unlocks the level 16 pack

Each pack can be purchased with in-game bank and will cost:

  • 71,400 for the level 6 pack
  • 131,00 for the level 11 pack
  • 180,000 for the level 16 pack.

Underglow and Tire Smoke
New variations of both Underglow and Tire Smoke are coming. These new additions will be included in amongst the already existing options and you'll find them within Shipments once you REP up.
Available for both Underglow and Tire Smoke will be; Steel blue, Candy pink, Cyan, Coral and Gold.

Scrap all Unequipped Parts
To help improve inventory management we are adding the ability to sell or trade-in all currently unequipped Speed Cards. Simply highlight a part category and you’ll be given the ability to sell or trade-in all the unequipped cards within that category.

Snapshot Pro Improvements
We’ve made some tweaks and improvements to Snapshot Pro, the first one being that you can now take Snapshots while in a takedown sequence. Alongside this, we’ve increased the distance the camera can move further away from the car, giving you a little more freedom to take that perfect shot. Some minor tweaks were also made to the sensitivity, making movement across bigger distances a bit quicker.

Objects in the background have had their quality level increased when you enter the mode, allowing you to take even higher quality Snapshots. The ability to toggle dirt on and off has also been included.

In addition to these changes we’re also adding new filter options; cinematic, Cool, Warm, Grunge, Vintage, Desaturated, Lo-Fi, Vivid Retro, Infra Zone and Monochrome Monitor.

Snapshot Pro will also be usable within Alldrive Hangouts.

Front Menu Improvements
We've made some adjustments to the front menu. Nothing major, just small quality of life improvements to help you stay up to date with Need for Speed and to get into your chosen area (campaign or multiplayer) much quicker.

The all-new BMW M5 will make its debut in Need for Speed Payback, marking the first time BMW has revealed a car through a videogame partnership, unveiling the new in-game BMW M5 at gamescom. The M5 takes the BMW M-series into new territory, with 441 kW/600 hp, peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) and 10.5 l/100 km [26.9 mpg imp] fuel consumption combined/ 241 g/km CO2 emissions combined, which promise supreme propulsive power and formidable performance. The new M xDrive developed by BMW M GmbH is the most engaging all-wheel-drive system yet to grace the high-performance segment and will be on display across various terrains in Need for Speed Payback.
