GameMaker Studio 2 Engine Free During GDC

by Rainier on March 14, 2018 @ 7:30 a.m. PDT

YoYo Games, the studio behind leading 2D game development engine GameMaker Studio 2, will provide full, unrestricted licenses of its acclaimed software to everyone, including participants in game jam events from March 14th to March 28th.

Events within the period include the highly anticipated Train Jam, The Heart Jam and the Not Going To GDC Game Jam. YoYo’s support of such game jams consolidates its commitment to supporting the next wave of independent developers, ensuring the barriers to game development remain at a minimum. Just click here to register and/or claim your free two week licence.

“GameMaker has an incredibly efficient workflow, which makes it ideal for creating games for Game Jams. Everyone can now celebrate GDC by making a game, particularly by participating in Game Jam events such as Train Jam, which are hugely important to the long-term health of the industry. They enable creators from all disciplines to come together informally, experimenting with ideas that they might not otherwise be able to in a more commercial setting,” said James Cox, General Manager, YoYo Games. “By providing unrestricted licenses to these independent developers during this two week period, we want to give them a tool that enables quick and efficient expression. GameMaker Studio 2’s ease of use also ensures inclusivity, from a technical standpoint, is kept as high as possible.”

GameMaker Studio 2 is the latest version of the GameMaker 2D game development technology. With no barriers to entry and powerful functionality, the engine enables both experienced and novice video game developers to create the games they imagine. GameMaker Studio 2 combines easy-to-use drag-and-drop tools, tutorials and game assets with  the powerful GameMaker Language (GML) and advanced, professional functionality, like the physics engine, particles and advanced shaders. GameMaker Studio 2 can be purchased for Windows desktop, Mac OS X, Ubuntu, Android, iOS, Amazon Fire, Microsoft UWP, HTML5, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One from $39.
