by Rainier on March 23, 2018 @ 8:16 a.m. PDT

Mavericks is an open world shooter built using improbable's low-latency networking technology combined CryEngine's beautiful visuals, resulting is a high-fidelity, dynamic world with destructibility and persistence enabling you to leave your impact on the world for everyone to see.

Mavericks is engineered with a focus on performance, stability, and strategic gameplay — we've created a great foundation to bring Battle Royale to a place it deserves.

Enter the Proving Grounds, a place where you can show what you're made of in the ultimate fight to the death experience. This first part of the Mavericks world will become available to play, with our closed beta access starting this Summer; sign-up now to hear how to get involved.

Crytek has licensed its game development software CryEngine to Automaton for Mavericks, an upcoming MMO "of unprecedented scale." After using CryEngine to develop Deceit, Automaton deepens its relationship with Crytek with an exclusive license agreement for its upcoming tactical shooter.

"Mavericks is set in a huge, photo-real, and highly dynamic environment, and CryEngine's high-performance rendering capabilities are just one of the aspects that make it the perfect engine for realizing the project. We’ve integrated SpatialOS into CryEngine, and it’s that combination at the heart of achieving an incredibly high number of concurrent players in a high-fidelity environment," said James Thompson of Automaton. "We have enjoyed a very positive partnership with Crytek over the last year as our team has been building the incredible technology and game world that Mavericks will be showcasing.”

"We are happy to be showcasing what the CryEngine can do via the exciting work that Automaton is doing on Mavericks, and it is an excellent example of just how powerful the CryEngine is," said CryEngine’s Product Manager, Collin Bishop.

The CryEngine team will collaborate with Automaton to support their development process, as well as to bring new features into the engine that the Automaton team has built in the process of creating Mavericks.

As a studio with experience working on massively multiplayer games we've re-imagined the large-scale shooter. We've combined a number of new and proven additions that drastically expand on what you've seen from the last generation of games. Including character progression, deep narrative, and a huge 12 square km world rich in content — Mavericks offers unique and rewarding gameplay, coming soon.

Mavericks is now accepting Closed Beta sign-ups, scheduled for later this summer.

Mavericks is due to launch in 2018 and will support 1,000 concurrent players in its ultra high-fidelity world.
