'Jupiter & Mars' (PS4) Partners With SeaLegacy And The Ocean Foundation At BitSummit - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on May 11, 2018 @ 5:00 p.m. PDT

Jupiter & Mars is an adventure game with both action and puzzle elements, set in a fantastic, futuristic, neon world in which mankind has disappeared and much of the world is underwater.

Players control two dolphins, Jupiter and her partner, Mars, as they navigate the devastating, still-functioning industrial legacy that humans left behind. Jupiter and Mars must use their wits and unique abilities to solve organic, environmental puzzles. Throughout their adventure Jupiter and Mars enlist the help of the Elders—an ancient race of powerful whales—to assist them in their quest to disable these still-active remnants of mankind’s past scattered around the world. The relics are preventing the once-vibrant oceans and reefs from being restored to full health, and it’s up to Jupiter and Mars to set things right.

While it’s playable in non-VR, it really shines when you put the headset on. You’re suddenly in a vibrant, pulsating underwater world where you’ll see familiar places in an all-new context, and that’s pretty exciting when you’re in a virtual reality setting. We’re really putting the work in to make this a 360-degree experience, offering equal parts visuals, audio, and haptic feedback.

Everywhere you look are sunken remnants of mankind’s past, populated by sea creatures big and small, and illuminated by evolved lifeforms that have assimilated into their being centuries worth of chemicals, plastics, metals and everything else humans have dumped in the oceans. While the world’s oceans have begun to reclaim and restore themselves, some particularly stubborn remnants of mankind’s technological past still remain. It’s up to our heroes, Jupiter and Mars, two evolved dolphins (one player-controlled, the other your hybrid player-controlled/AI partner) to make things right.

In addition to presenting a compelling, futuristic underwater world in which once-familiar environments have been submerged and subjected to the ravages of time, Jupiter & Mars offers a combination of exploration, puzzle-solving, action, and mystery.

Tigertron announced a collaboration with SeaLegacy, a pioneering, globally active environmental organization, to share the group’s unique brand of photography and film-driven storytelling initiatives through special, unlockable content in Tigertron’s upcoming PlayStation 4/PlayStation VR game, Jupiter & Mars, which is playable for the first time anywhere this weekend at BitSummit Vol. 6, the  independent gaming festival in Kyoto, Japan.

“SeaLegacy––via in the efforts of co-founders Paul Nicklen and Cristina Mittermeier––is incredible at raising awareness  and inspiring change through their stunning photography, which reveals the fragile state of our planet. They further articulate this messaging at high impact events around the world, like TED Talks, and other conferences. We thought we could help boost this signal by inviting them to be a part of Jupiter & Mars, and hopefully help them reach an entirely new, socially active audience,” said James Mielke, the creative director for Tigertron. “Healthy oceans equal a healthy planet––oceans are not an inexhaustible resource––and we encourage anyone interested in helping the creatures that inhabit it to begin by exploring SeaLegacy’s community, The Tide.”

Cristina Mittermeier, the co-founder of SeaLegacy, added, "Thinking about the way that young people engage with media and communicate today, we think that video games with a purpose, like Jupiter & Mars, are vital to engage young audiences in our efforts to protect the oceans."

Tigertron also announced a collaboration with The Ocean Foundation, a leading Washington, D.C.-based environmental organization, to support the group’s marine conservation initiatives by including unlockable content in Tigertron’s upcoming PlayStation 4/PlayStation VR game, Jupiter & Mars.

“We hope that by showcasing the efforts of organizations like The Ocean Foundation that we can enrich Jupiter & Mars with fact-based scientific content that expands upon the challenges our characters face, such as ocean acidification, the melting of polar icecaps, and coral reef bleaching” said James Mielke, the creative director for Tigertron. “Video games are such a unique, interactive medium, we felt this would be the perfect way to introduce groups like The Ocean Foundation to a whole new audience of gamers active and engaged about the world they live in.”

Mark J. Spalding, the president of The Ocean Foundation, added, "We at The Ocean Foundation are excited to join Tigertron in this unique partnership to raise awareness of the realities facing our global ocean. We hope that as players explore the digital underwater world of Jupiter & Mars, they will be inspired to protect life on our blue planet."

Created in cooperation with two Australian studios, Tantalus Media and Wicked Witch, Jupiter & Mars is an international collaboration bringing together a host of talent, such as the game’s soundtrack composer, Jonathan Atkinson, who was one of the core members of the late George Martin’s production team. Joining him on the game’s theme song “Shooting Stars” is Nami Miyahara, a Tokyo-based recording artist and voice actor best known in the West as a vocalist on Genki Rockets’ song “Heavenly Star.

Jupiter & Mars is currently slated to surface in summer 2018 for PS4 and PSVR.
