'State of Decay 2' (ALL) Reaches Over 1 Million Players in First Two Days

by Rainier on May 25, 2018 @ 8:20 a.m. PDT

State of Decay 2 immerses you in an all-new, multiplayer zombie survival fantasy.

When the dead rose, civilization ended. The world as you knew it is gone. Now you and the few scattered survivors must band together to survive and rebuild. You choose where to make your stand, designing and fortifying your home base, performing daring raids for food and ammunition, and rescuing other playable survivors with unique talents. The open, sandbox world develops in real time, shaped by your actions and dynamically generating content based on your choices and the ever-increasing zombie threat.

Build a lasting community, working with other players or solo to overcome challenges while exploring your own unique story in a world that remembers the choices you make.

How will you survive the zombie apocalypse?

Microsoft announced that State of Decay 2 has already crossed the 1 million player threshold two days into the game’s global release.

Since Early Access for the Ultimate Edition on May 18 and the global release of the Standard Edition on May 22, we have had over a million survivors across the globe playing and creating their own zombie survival story.

Throughout launch, there’s been over six million combined hours of State of Decay 2 gameplay, and we’ve watched nearly 3.5M hours of gameplay across Mixer, Twitch and YouTube Gaming from over 41,000 unique broadcasts.

Watching players create new communities, forge friendships and test survival skills contributed to making State of Decay 2 one of the top-watched titles this week. Across player communities, we’ve seen survivors kill over 675 million zombies, throw over 6 million firecrackers and fireworks (survivors still find ways to celebrate), eat over 6 million bags of snacks, read over 2 million textbooks, and typically survive for about three days (with some players surviving for over an in-game month – a lofty goal to aim for your session this weekend).

After this exciting debut, we look forward to seeing the community continue to grow thanks to fans and Xbox Game Pass members sharing their stories and showing off their ultimate survival plan.

Putting this giant open-world zombie survival sim in the hands of fans has exposed some bugs and issues – we’ve addressed and will continue to address them as we hear more from players. The team at Microsoft Studios and Undead Labs continue to work on updating the game to address these issues as our number one priority.  If you are having any problems with the game, please check out our support page here.

Key Features:

  • Play as a Community of Individuals in an Open-World Adventure
    • There is no singular hero character. Play as an entire community — each survivor in the game is their own person, with a unique mix of background traits, skills, and attitudes that determine what they can do, what they want, and what they are willing to do to get it.
    • Use your community’s unique array of individuals to forge a path through the game that is personal to you. Your choices shape the identity of your community, ensuring that no two stories are alike.
    • Explore an open, simulated world filled with dynamic zombie and human enemies, friendly survivors to recruit into your community, and valuable resources and gear necessary to keep your people alive.
  • RPG Progression Systems for Individuals, Base, and Community
    • Develop each survivor's traits and skills to improve their capabilities and strengthen your community.
    • Collect resources to build and fortify your base, unlocking crucial new facilities and valuable community options along the way.
    • Elevate your favorite survivors to leadership roles in your community by heeding their advice and completing their goals, and unlock new community benefits and objectives that suit your leader’s ideals.
    • Manage the relationships and goals of your survivors to build a strong community that has a lasting impact on the future of your world.
  • Four-player Co-op Multiplayer
    • Play solo, or for the first time ever in the “State of Decay” franchise, with up to three of your friends.
    • Invite friends to join your game, or drop into theirs. Work together as you explore the deadly post-apocalyptic environment, watching each other’s backs and sharing the rewards of your accomplishments.
    • Each player maintains command of their own personal community and roster of characters.

State of Decay 2 is available on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC as an Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Game Pass title (with cross-play and cross-save support) for $29.99, with an Ultimate Edition at $49.99.
