'In the Valley of Gods' Development On Hold

by Rainier on Dec. 4, 2019 @ 11:36 a.m. PST

In the Valley of Gods is a first-person adventure where you explore a remote and ancient valley in the Egyptian desert, uncovering treasure and treachery in pursuit of a discovery that could bring you fame and fortune—or leave you for dead, buried beneath the sands.

In the Valley of Gods is a sprawling narrative experience in remote, 1920's Egypt. You are Rashida, a disgraced former explorer and filmmaker given one last shot at the adventurous life you desperately miss. Somewhere, beyond the endless miles of dunes, ruins, and tombs lies an incredible archaeological discovery—but it can't be found without the help of Zora, the former partner you vowed never to work with again.

Announced back in 2017, Campo Santo has been quiet on the development progress. Earlier this year Valve acquired the indie developer and last month fans started panicking when several of Campo Santo's developers started removing references to In the Valley of Gods from their profiles.

Earlier today Campo Santo co-founder Jake Rodkin issued a statement clarifying the situation.

"As we integrated ourselves into Valve it became clear there was a lot of valuable work to be done on Half-Life: Alyx. Some of us starting lending a hand, and have since become full-time on the project as it approaches launch. Similarly, some ex-Campos are working on Dota Underlords, some are on Steam, and so on. So to answer your question as of today, In the Valley of Gods development is on hold—but it certainly feels like a project people can and may return to."
