'Ember Sword' Integrates Digital Collectibles Marketplace

by Rainier on Feb. 15, 2019 @ 3:25 a.m. PST

Ember Sword is a cross-platform sandbox MMORPG that lets players own, control, and evolve the fantasy universe as landowners and acquire scarce cosmetics through PVP and PVE activities as opposed to through lootboxes.

Drawing inspiration from classics like Ultima Online and Runescape, Ember Sword’s classless combat system, open-world PVP, and player-driven economy, promises an engaging and persistent universe where the idea of a player-controlled world is taken one step by letting players own an actual parcel of land in-game, much like Second Life.

Whether you're a peaceful forager of goods and rares making a name for yourself or a fierce warrior of no alignment, there is a place for you in Ember Sword - a place where peace and war is chosen by the players themselves. A place built by you!

Ember Sword promises to re-define the MMORPG genres negative pay-to-win reputation by removing the traditional cash shop.

Ember Sword developer So Couch Studios announced a new strategic partnership with OpenSea, the largest digital marketplace for trading of cosmetic gaming collectibles, to build a secure in-game marketplace for the player-owned cosmetic collectibles in Ember Sword using the OpenSea infrastructure.

As part of the partnership, the two companies will be working together to utilize a custom version of the OpenSea backend to power a peer-to-peer marketplace for cosmetic items inside the Ember Sword game, with a user-friendly interface made specifically for gamers.

“We’re excited to partner with Ember Sword for the development of an in-game peer-to-peer marketplace, as we’ve been very impressed with both the team and early gameplay,” said OpenSea CEO Devin Finzer.

The first-of-its-kind Ember Sword marketplace will allow players to freely trade their in-game premium cosmetic items, like skins and emotes, at ease using Ember Sword’s premium currency - the PIXEL Token. A currency that in itself exists in a scarce supply and is powered by the Ethereum blockchain, which means players can optionally sell the PIXEL Token for USD on decentralized exchanges to turn a profit from the cosmetic items they’ve acquired in-game.

“Players trade game cosmetics, skins, and accounts for billions of dollars every year on illegal and insecure black markets already, but in Ember Sword, these items can be traded legally within the game’s secure ecosystem,” So Couch Studios CEO Mark Laursen explained.

Unlike traditional video games like Fortnite and Counter Strike where cosmetic items exist in infinite supply and are all completely identical, cosmetics in Ember Sword all have a unique item history, exist in a finite supply, and are rewarded to players through in-game activities and competitions, turning each item into a true digital collectible.

“OpenSea is poised to become the leading marketplace for the user-owned digital collectibles that are at the very backbone of the next revolution in free to play monetization, and we’re thrilled to partner with their talented team to create the best possible experience for our players,” said Mark Laursen. “We want to make it as easy as possible for players to sell their cosmetic items, and with OpenSea, we avoid having to build a marketplace from the ground up, including testing and deploying our own marketplace code.”

The new partnership also entails the companies exploring adding all Ember Sword cosmetic items to the OpenSea platform, which already boasts over 1 million digital collectibles for sale.

Key Features:

  • Cross-Platform: Accessible in a browser or through a desktop client at release, a mobile version is planned for later release.
  • Artist Workshop: Release your creativity by designing models, skins, and emotes, the best of which will appear in-game.
  • True Ownership and Control: With players evolving the world every day and truly owning their own cosmetic items, Ember Sword is run by the players.
