'Production Line' Gets Many More Updates, New DLC In Development

by Rainier on Aug. 26, 2019 @ 8:00 a.m. PDT

Production Line is an isometric factory-building strategy game that flips the mechanics of most 'building' games on its head, instead of building bigger and better, the goal is to build faster and smarter.

Inspired by a book by Henry Ford (creator of the Model T car, and arguably the originator of the idea of production lines in factories), Production Line is a management/strategy game where the player runs a small, but growing car company. The objective is to grow your business whilst at the same time perfecting the layout, and production process for making cars, in order to bring the sale price for your cars as low as possible and thus available to the mass market.

The production line system works because each step in a car's construction is broken down until its so simple, it can be done at high speed and with high efficiency. Players of production line will start with a small inefficient factory and expand it to a vast sprawling production line where the cost of each car tumbles down and down, and (hopefully) profits and sales shoot up and up!

The mechanics of the game as unusual in that the player is not striving to make the product bigger, but to constantly subdivide the production process in order to squeeze every possible optimization and making each stage of the production line as simple and fast and efficient as possible.

We are now working on update 80 (oh yes...80 updates) to the game, with some bug fixes and some user-interface improvem

  • Market value of each car now shown in the vehicle design screen.
  • Map editor now highlights the potential placement tiles for importers and exporters in that mode to avoid confusion.
  • Improved component tab on efficiency screen shows more stats, in more sortable columns, with only one column now.
  • Improved financial chart layout
  • Improvced performance on large maps
  • Prices change less frequently now, reducing micro-management
  • Zoom in/out with the mouse wheel on the map editor now does zoom-to-cursor.
  • Colorblind palette support
  • Added new researchable slot to manufacture hybrid powertrains.
  • Added new researchable upgrade for the visual inspection slot which makes the checks take much longer but very high chance to spot defects.
  • Added search bars for R&D screen and the slot picker to make finding things much easier
  • 5 new researchable marketing options: Social media,Sponsorship,Product Placement,Billboards and Banner ads.
  • Better car light graphics.

Thats along with a LOT of minor GUI improvements and fixes. if you havent played for a few months, we recomend you give the game another go! Heres a screenshot showing the improved lights :D

As well as improving the basic game, we are also working on a new 'extra designs' expansion for the game. Its purely cosmetic, but will add new variants of every single vehicle in the base game, so you can have (for example) multiple SUVs in development and they can look physically different.

And if you haven't already got it, don't forget our cool 'doors that go like this' expansion adds a high-tech supercar and gull-wing / scissor-wing and butterfly doors to the game.

Production Line is available direct from the official website, as well as from GoG, Steam and the Humble Store for $24.99.
