'Astral Tracks' Available On Steam Early Access Instead Of Full Launch - Trailer

by Rainier on Nov. 16, 2023 @ 8:59 a.m. PST

Astral Tracks is a competitive speedrunning 3D platformer that puts a host of dynamic movement possibilities at your disposal.

Astral Tracks puts a host of dynamic movement possibilities at your disposal, from Spider-Man-like swinging, to Titanfall-esque wallrunning, and tasks you with using these abilities to complete Astral Tracks’ levels as quickly as possible and defeat your friends both locally and online.

Unleash your competitive streak as you run, jump, dash, swing, slide and wallrun your way through procedurally generated tracks constructed from hand-made chunks. Master your skills to shave seconds off your times and play against friends, family or enemies, locally or online, competing for the top-spot on the leaderboards! Or embrace Astral Tracks’ meditative side and find yourself entering a relaxing flow-state as you glide through the tracks.

Time-limited challenges add an extra dimension of fun to your runs through Astral Tracks’ cyber-sci-fi settings and serve to ratchet up the level of competition by bringing players together to compete on the same tracks. Your progress through the game will be rewarded with unlockable costumes and accessories that can be purchased with in-game currency (there are no microtransactions), including diving fins, plungers, balloon animals, silly hats, baked goods and tutus, adding an outlandish splash of fun to the game’s interdimensional sci-fi aesthetics.

Astral Tracks was originally planned for a full release today on PC, but LAB132 made the decision to delay in favor of an Early Access release to allow them the time they need to improve Astral Tracks and reach the high standards they intend to meet on release.

This Early Access period will also give players the chance to provide vital feedback to positively improve Astral Tracks before release. A release date for the full PC, PlayStation and Xbox version will be announced at a later date.

“We apologise to those of you who were looking forward to playing the full version of Astral Tracks today,” said LAB132 co-founder Laura Körting. “However, if we had released today, it would not have been the game we wanted. This decision was driven by wanting to create the best possible experience for players and although the development is really far, some things require more iteration and community feedback. This Early Access release will allow you to have fun playing the game now, while also giving us time to add more content and deliver the best possible version of Astral Tracks”.

“In the Early Access game, players will have dynamic character abilities to race through procedurally generated levels in a cyber-futuristic style. Players can choose from several different characters and earn duck-based currency (100% NO microtransactions!) while playing to customize them with many different accessories and costumes. Astral Tracks also already includes several tutorial stages to ease you into the character abilities, like dashing, grappling and sliding, and the racing-like gameplay. Players will also already be able to find several stages with hundreds of tracks to run and various difficulty levels. Each track has a global leaderboard where players can compare their best times to find out who is the very best. The game has online multiplayer, so players can choose to play with and against their Steam friends at any time for any track, and it also already has a kind of asynchronous multiplayer, where players can run against ghosts of previous runs from other players. Additionally, the game already provides various Achievements to be unlocked through regular gameplay, and will be available in multiple languages upon Early Access release.”

“The main goal for the full release is to improve the detailing and functionality of the existing gameplay and features, add new features in close exchange with the community (our ideas would include local splitscreen multiplayer and special, time-limited challenges), as well as add more content to the game overall, like new costumes and track elements! So the full version will be an overall enhanced experience for the players!”

Key Features:

  • Character abilities: Sprint, dash, slide, swing and wall run to move dynamically through tracks and overcome obstacles!
  • Thousands of levels to choose from: Procedurally generated levels built from pre-designed chunks deliver unlimited tracks to tackle! Each chunk is unique and requires a different combination of movements and a precise use of skills to progress.
  • Leaderboards and multiple multiplayer modes: Play against friends in local and online co-op, or compete against the world via leaderboards! All tracks can be completed in single player as well, but you may choose to find like-minded runners at any time!
  • Customization: Unlock eccentric costumes for your avatar - the appearance of your astronaut, robot, or other characters can be customized with dozens of different accessories, from diving fins and plungers to balloon animals or silly hats! 100% no microtransactions!
  • Rubber ducking reward system: While recovering from the pressure to be the very best, you may also spend some time collecting different kinds of rubber ducks which can be used to unlock new avatars and costumes. Maybe there are still some hidden inside that track you just finished yesterday?
  • Challenges: Time-limited challenges - appearing regularly for a certain period of time - test your skills, serve to ratchet up the level of competition and bring players together onto the track!

Astral Tracks is coming to PC (Steam) in Q1/Q2 2024, followed by consoles at a later time.
