'F1 23' Details Game Updates and Real-World Challenges Coming In October

by Rainier on Sept. 26, 2023 @ 9:52 a.m. PDT

Headlined with the return of the epic story mode Braking Point, F1 23 is home to every team, driver and circuit for the 2023 season, including the highly anticipated Las Vegas Grand Prix and Lusail International Circuit, Qatar.

Building on the exciting new partnership with Max Verstappen, who now boasts EA Sports branding on the chin of his helmet, the back-to-back World Champion is confirmed as the cover star for the digital-exclusive F1 23 Champions Edition.

Braking Point returns for a bold new chapter following the careers of young upstart Aiden Jackson, and protagonist, Devon Butler, now teammates for Konnersport Racing Team, a fledgling organization hoping to succeed against the current real-world F1 teams and drivers. Adding a host of new characters, fresh rivalries, and racing challenges, both aim to take their careers to the next level, but there will be twists, turns, and pitfalls along the way.

F1 23’s handling has been upgraded from last season, allowing for more predictable behavior, and new vehicle physics gives the cars better traction when braking, accelerating, and cornering. By incorporating actual F1 team feedback, a greater balance between aerodynamics and tyre grip results in a more realistic feel. Engine torque and inertia improvements also mean throttle control is more authentic and offers a greater level of connection to the car. Alongside these improvements, Precision Drive controller technology will give pad players better control and confidence in those crucial race moments.

Electronic Arts announces a new series of game updates and real-world challenges for EA Sports F1 23 that will put players’ skills to the test for a chance to win exclusive in-game items.

The addition of the F2 2023 season will bring new racing opportunities, and the launch of the sports livery update will update car designs to match recent real-world changes. More ‘Pro Challenges’ will allow fans to race against EA Sports ambassadors Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc across several Grands Prix during October.

"We have collaborated closely with the Formula 1 teams to introduce our enhanced sports livery update. Each team has made unique modifications to the cars, encompassing geometry, bodywork, and sponsors to ensure fans enjoy the most authentic F1 racing experience. Additionally, we are delighted to announce that players can now participate in the thrilling 14-round Formula 2 season, competing against prominent drivers such as Théo Pourchaire, Frederik Vesti, and Ayumu Iwasa," said Lee Mather, Codemasters' Senior Creative Director.

Each month, ‘F1 World’ brings gameplay challenges that help players engage with the sport they love. Here's everything fans can look forward to in October:

  • From September 26 to October 2, players will be able to compete in a lap time trial challenge against World Champion, Max Verstappen*. Those who beat his time of 1:28:177 will earn his special Formula 1 LENOVO JAPANESE GRAND PRIX 2023 helmet in-game, which features the new EA Sports FC logo ahead of its worldwide launch on September 29. More Pro Challenges include the Formula 1 LENOVO UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX 2023 (October 16 to 23), Formula 1 GRAN PREMIO DE LA CIUDAD DE MÉXICO 2023 (October 23 to 30) and Formula 1 ROLEX GRANDE PRÊMIO DE SÃO PAULO 2023 (October 30 to November 6).
  • A new patch will be released on October 16 which includes the addition of the F2™ 2023 season free for all players, the release of the sports livery update and F1 Esports champions, including Lucas Blakeley, the reigning 2022 Formula 1 Esports Series Champion, making their debut as Icons.
  • ‘Replay Events’ of Formula 1 QATAR AIRWAYS QATAR GRAND PRIX 2023, Formula 1 LENOVO UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX 2023 and Formula 1 GRAN PREMIO DE LA CIUDAD DE MÉXICO 2023 will allow fans to relive the races by taking control of any of the 20 drivers in a replica Grand Prix with identical grid placings.
  • Studio-curated ‘Scenario Events’ featuring Nico Hülkenberg (October 17 to 22) and Sergio Perez (October 23 to 30).

Alongside competing on every circuit for the 2023 season with all teams and drivers, players can live the drama of Formula 1 in ‘Braking Point 2’, F1 23’s enthralling narrative-driven story mode, and create their legacy via the single and multiplayer modes including the widely popular ‘My Team’.

*Log into F1 World and beat Max Verstappen's time in the Pro Challenge between September 26 10:00 AM UTC and October 2, 9:59 AM UTC, 2023, to get the Max Verstappen Japan helmet in-game.

Following community feedback, 35% race distance makes its debut, providing the perfect sweet spot between the previous short and long race options. Additionally, red flags add a new strategic element to F1 23, and the ability to react quickly could change the outcome of a race, both for better and worse. Alongside the full 2023 season calendar, which expands to include Las Vegas and Lusail, the game also boasts three legacy circuits, with Paul Ricard (France), Shanghai (China), and Portimão (Portugal) all confirmed for launch.

The introduction of the F1 World hub delivers a fresh experience with content inspired by the real-world calendar. Helping introduce players to the complex world of Formula 1, F1 World brings together multiple game modes, including Time Trial and Grand Prix, offering an exciting new way to play the game. A new progression system allows players to level up by completing challenges to unlock car upgrades, new liveries, race suits, and helmets. A new safety rating system links online and offline play, encouraging drivers to race cleanly. This system also helps pair like-minded drivers more efficiently for improved online racing.

F1 23 is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC (EA App/Epic Games Store/Steam).
