27th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards Announces 2023’s Best Video Games Winners

Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) announces winners of 2023's Best Video Games at 27th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards.

A dazzling assembly of the interactive entertainment industry convened at the Aria Resort & Casino for the 27th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards, celebrating the remarkable accomplishments of their peers. 

Hosted by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) and determined by votes from its 30,000+ members of industry experts, the developers and studios that crafted the most groundbreaking video games of the year were honored. Awards were presented in 23 diverse categories, including exceptional achievements in technology, art, animation,story and audio.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac Games took home six major awards during the evening, including the awards for Outstanding Achievement in Animation, Outstanding Achievement in Character, Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition, Outstanding Achievement in Audio Design, Outstanding Technical Achievement as well as Action Game of the Year.

Belgian game developer Larian Studios was also highly recognized by members of the Academy for their work on Baldur’s Gate 3, awarding the studio with five awards including Outstanding Achievement awards across Story, Game Direction and Game Design, as well as Role-Playing Game of the Year and the prestigious Game of the Year. 

Nintendo was awarded Adventure Game of the Year for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, while the team at Remedy Entertainment took home Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction for their survival horror title, Alan Wake 2.

The AIAS also honored the legendary Japanese composer and sound director, Koji Kondo, for his phenomenal contributions to Nintendo over his 40-year career including the iconic Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda video game series.

Composer Brian Tyler, acclaimed for his work on The Super Mario Bros Movie,had the honor of presenting Kondo-san with the Academy’s esteemed Hall of Fame award.

Awards are a testament to the talent and creativity of the interactive entertainment industry, gathering to honor the visionaries whose dedication, innovation, and passion have set new standards and brought us unforgettable gaming experiences,” stated Meggan Scavio, President of the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences. “From all of us at the Academy, and on behalf of your peers around the world, we extend our warmest congratulations to the outstanding 2023 nominees and winners for their remarkable contributions to the world of gaming.”

Attended by game developers and industry professionals from around the world, the 27th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards ceremony was held on February 15 at the Aria Resort & Casino. The event was live-streamed by media partner IGN and hosted by captivating duo, Greg Miller of Kinda Funny and Stella Chung of IGN, bringing together the gaming community for an evening of celebration.

Since 1996, the D.I.C.E. Awards have recognized outstanding games, individuals, and development teams that push the boundaries of technology, creativity, and artistic expression in the worldwide interactive entertainment industry. 

The Academy’s 30,000+ members, comprised of the interactive publishing and development communities, recognize excellence in 23 different interactive game categories in one of the highest forms of recognition in the industry. Titles were played and evaluated by members of the Academy’s peer panels to determine final nominees. These panels, one for each award category, are composed of the game industry’s most experienced and talented experts in their chosen fields. Winners are determined as part of a confidential voting process and are revealed on the evening of the show.
