'Reveil' No Longer Coming To Xbox One, Shows Off 19 Mins Of Gameplay - Trailer

by Rainier on Feb. 6, 2024 @ 11:36 a.m. PST

Reveil is a narrative first-person psycho-thriller game that focuses on story, puzzles and exploration.

Find out what’s going on inside Walter Thompson and what his dark past at the Nelson Bros Circus has to do with it.

A unique, visually appealing, mentally challenging story. Versatile puzzles, unanswered questions, confusing clues and a disturbing psyche demand a lot from both the player and the protagonist, Walter Thompson.

Can you manage to make sense of it all? Should you persevere, there is a chance to find answers to your questions.

You wake up. You're disoriented. Your head hurts. Things seem surreal, yet familiar.

Your wife Martha and your daughter Dorie are not there. Why?

Looking for answers, you explore your environment and fragments of memories. On your journey you are repeatedly confronted with riddling tasks, driven by the desire to find out what's going on.

What happened last night? Why can't you think of any other thing aside from your days as a stage builder at the circus?

As things get crazier and more bizarre, the lines between reality, memory, and imagination become more and more blurred and you realize: there is no going back. You have to do whatever it takes to bring this story to an end, no matter at what cost...

"The feeling of safety is an elusive one. It's not over yet."

Developer Pixelsplit and Publisher Daedalic Entertainment released an in-depth look at new gameplay for their upcoming psychological thriller Reveil which is available to pre-order.

Join indie enthusiast CozyGamerKat as she talks with the developers about Reveil’s development, story, environment, and sound design. Meanwhile, the developers share atmospheric gameplay and a never-before-seen spine-chilling chase sequence that will put you on the edge of your seat.

In the video, you will experience the beginning of Reveil and, further down the line, a short but intense segment that takes place in a later part of the story. Join the main character Walter Thompson as he wakes up in his bedroom, just to realize soon after that this is not his home - but a place where different memories of his get interwoven with each other. Walter starts the search for his daughter Dorie while encountering dream-like scenes that all seem to revolve around the Nelson Bros Circus where he once worked. Will you be able to make sense of it all while reality is falling apart?

Due to their limited resources, the small indie team has decided to focus on the development of these previously mentioned platforms and confirms that an Xbox One version of Reveil is no longer planned to be developed.

In Reveil, the player is immersed into a world, designed with attention to detail, where the boundaries between reality and illusion become blurred. The setting is an authentically orchestrated environment inspired by the circus of the 60s, which soon takes on surreal features.

The impressions become darker, more mysterious, more enigmatic the further you advance. Once caught in the maelstrom of deceptive impressions, memory fragments and mysterious visions, your only option is to dive deeper - in the hope of finding answers to your perplexing situation and condition, even if this hope is slowly fading. The only thing that keeps you from giving up is the will to find Martha and Dorie. Do not shut your eyes to the hints left by the two, but keep them wide open and ... try to not lose your mind.

Key Features:

  • A deeply psychological experience that will keep you questioning everything.
  • Five playable acts in different, carefully designed environments.
  • First-person narrative experience including:
  • Various puzzles and riddles
  • Beautiful and immersive visual experience #madewithunity
  • Multi-layered narrative with psychedelic, biographical and disturbing elements
  • Atmospheric paintings, posters, writings referring to the circus era of the 60s.

Reveil is coming to PC (Steam), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on March 6, 2024, followed by PS4 later in 2024.
